General information
- Short Summary
-
A Northern-German University’s spin-off company offers Lignin particle transformation technology and services for valorization of lignin-rich side streams or lignin intermediate output streams.
Biorefineries, companies dedicated to renewable and sustainable chemistry and energy or pulp and paper industries can benefit from cooperation by opening new application fields and valoization routes for their lignin residues. - Full Description
-
Output streams of biorefineries, companies dedicated to renewable and sustainable chemistry and energy or pulp and paper industries contain the biopolymer lignin, which can be further used for high-value applications. As a biobased and biodegradable polymer from non-food sources, lignin is an ideal and affordable solution to replace fossil sources and thus a natural alternative to non-sustainable ingredients still used in industries such as bio-composites, foams, coatings, resin applications, fabrics and textiles or even battery applications.
A Northern German University's spin-off is an ideal partner for technological cooperation to receive high-quality lignin from output streams and to look for high-value applications.
The company's work is based on experts know-how gained in years of university research and a proprietary technology to tailor lignin particles of specific particle size and morphology to open possible applications in diverse valuable materials and intermediary products.
The company has recently launched its natural cosmetic ingredient line. The technology behind this product proves also to be beneficial for novel material and bulk applications and is offered in a licensing model to producers of crude lignin.
The company understands itself as a link between the industries with lignin-rich output streams and the processing industries in the materials and life sciences sector, that can use lignin as a resource within their products.
Furhermore, the company is continuously building its lignin library and lignin application matrix. - Advantages and Innovations
-
- Valorization of output-streams
- Contribution to sustainable development and circular material flows
- Lignin has many possibilities for high-value applications as it can be considered a natural high performance additive with unique features as mechanical reinforcement, UV protection and antioxidation properties. - Technical Specification or Expertise Sought

Partner Sought
- Expected Role of a Partner
-
In order to broaden its lignin portfolio and to develop technical cooperations, the company is looking for partners with significant suitable output streams. These can be lignin-rich biomass side streams or novel lignin intermediates. Ideal partners are e.g. biorefineries, companies dedicated to renewable and sustainable chemistry and energy or pulp and paper industries with an implemented technology or process concept currently being scaled-up.
Within a technical cooperation agreement the partners will contribute samples of their output streams, which the German spin-off company will analyse and further use to design high-quality lignin particles and assess high-value application opportunities, either for their own Life Science applications or in a contract R&D project for the partner valorization/application strategy.
Companies with lignin-rich biomass streams or outputs containing lignin intermediates are sought. This could e.g. be biorefineries, companies dedicated to renewable and sustainable chemistry and energy or pulp and paper industries. - Type and Size of Partner
