General information

Short Summary
A German SME offers a bio-based and biologicaly degradable material suitable for thermoformed films that is food-contact approved and can be tailored to packaging tasks. The material is compostable, heat-resistant and free from BPA and PFAS. The German SME would like to conclude commercial agreements with industrial partners interested in replacing conventional materials with the new product.
Full Description
A young German SME is specialised in the manufacture of bio-based and biodegradable alternatives that replace petroleum-based plastic granulate. Materials used include kaolin, chalk and cellulose. This bio-based, degradable granulate is made from almost 70 percent renewable raw materials. A special characteristic is that it can be processed on existing tools. In close cooperation with the end-user, intelligent solutions are created in which the raw materials required for the end product are put together individually.
A special product that can be produced based on the bio-based and biodegradable granulates are thermoformed films, a sustainable alternative to conventional thermoformed parts. The related material is available in granulate, film or as finished thermoformed parts. The thermoformed film is approved for direct contact with food (EU 10/2011). It can be used , e.g. for blister packaging.
Advantages and Innovations
It combines the following advantages in one product:
- made from renewable raw materials (e.g. cellulose)
- 75% less greenhouse gases than a comparable PET variant
- industrially compostable
- free from BPA & PFAS
- heat-resistant up to approx. 50 degree
- available in granulate, film or finished thermoformed part
