General information

Short Summary
The innovative German IIoT-bearings service provider has developed a patented non-invasive sensor technique for measuring loads and lubrication conditions in rolling bearings. They are looking for partners from the machine and plant engineering sector or component manufacturers (pumps, gearboxes, motors, etc.) who would like to integrate the company’s sensor technology into their applications. Cooperation under a commercial agreement with technical assistance is envisaged.
Full Description
The German innovative company is a 2021 founded spin-off of the technical university of Darmstadt. The venture was also funded by the EXIST Forschungstransfer grant. They have developed and patented a non-invasive sensor technique for measuring loads and lubrication conditions in rolling bearings, which does not require any constructional design changes on the machinery. Thus, the data collected by the sensors is crucial for the implementation of new digital business models of the clients. The venture already develops custom solutions for more than 35 different client companies. Applications can be found wherever plain or roller bearings are installed.

The German company operates in the field of mechanical engineering and sensor technology and currently serves the sectors of textile machines, agricultural and construction machinery. Nevertheless, the company already pursues prototype projects in order to gain market access to other industries where a bearing failure or a failure of the process to be monitored causes high costs. In the long run the company’s vision foresees the attainment of access to the entire bearing market due to the sensor’s high potential to deliver valuable data in all sectors of mechanical engineering.

The German sensor expert offers an economical solution for load monitoring and predictive maintenance for rolling bearings. The sensor bearing technology measures load, forces and lubrication condition in rolling bearings. Lubricant quality and quantity are crucial for a good operation of the bearing. Monitoring the lubrication can help to implement predictive maintenance, turning rigid maintenance interval into true condition-based maintenance. Hence, with the company’s technology lubrication- and load-induced bearing damage can be predicted at an early stage and thus be prevented. Through the plug & play device, no additional installation space is required for sensor elements. The data obtained can be easily embedded in existing condition monitoring and predictive maintenance systems. This turns the previous standard bearings used into information suppliers.

The company acts as a service provider. The team brings its expertise in the analysis of the client’s machinery and setup to provide them with direct knowledge and insights into their systems. These services include project planning, installation, execution and evaluation of the measurements.

They are looking for innovative partners from the machine and plant engineering sector or component manufacturers (pumps, gearboxes, motors, etc.) who would like to integrate the company’s sensor technology into their applications. Long-term cooperation under a commercial agreement with technical assistance is envisaged.
Advantages and Innovations
- It is the only technology which offers an economical access to force and lubrication data from bearings.
- While current predictive maintenance solutions can only diagnose damage after it has happened, the company’s load-based approach can predict the lifetime and diagnose overload conditions, thus preventing damage altogether.
- The company’s sensors are the only sensors on the market able to detect the lubrication condition of the bearings.
- The sensor bearing has the same dimensions as a conventional bearing, and therefore can be integrated easily into the pre-existent structure. Only minimal design adjustment is needed to facilitate the electrical contact.
- Hence, for the user, the offered technology is an economical solution to acquire valuable data. In contrast, current conventional sensor solutions existing on the market need additional space and therefore are associated with high integration costs for redesigning a machine.
- Furthermore, because the bearing itself is the sensor, no additional technology needs to be integrated into the system, and therefore no needs for additional installation space.
- The company brings its expertise to the customers. The service includes project planning, installation, execution and evaluation of the measurements.
