General information
- Short Summary
- A German scale-up with high expertise in environmental engineering, product design and acoustics is offering cooperation in product development to producers of acoustic products that would like to reduce their environmental footprint by replacing fossil materials with a 100% natural and non-toxic alternative: mycelium.
- Full Description
-
A team of environmental engineers and product designers from Northern Germany with a strong foundation in material research, aims to revolutionize room acoustics with a remarkable natural material: mycelium.
The company has established a standardized circular production process, where the fungal mycelium grows on a feedstock of biobased wastestreams into the desired shape, using 3D molded inlays. The mycelium acts as a natural "glue" that connects the various natural components - without any artificial or environmentally harmful substances. The panels are dried and sterilized by heat. The result is a 100% natural and toxin-free material with excellent sound absorbing and insulating properties by nature.
The acoustic absorbers effectively dampen sound over a wide frequency range. The open-pored surface of the natural mycelium material reduces noise by converting sound energy, making it ideal for offices, co-working spaces, studios or other rooms where reverberation is a challenge. The manufacturing process allows for a variety of surface textures and forms, making the sound absorbers visually striking.
The company is offering cooperation in product development to producers of acoustic products that would like to reduce their environmental footprint by replacing conventional acoustic material such as PET fleece, polystyrene or melamine resin foam with mycelium materials. Commercial agreements with technical assistance are envisaged. - Advantages and Innovations

Advantages and Innovation
• 100% natural and toxin-free sound absorbers that have excellent properties by nature
• Mycelium acoustic absorbers effectively dampen sound over a wide frequency range
• The manufacturing process allows for a variety of surface textures and forms
• Compared to conventional competitor products such as polystyrene or melamine resin foam, the mycelium material has a demonstrably lower environmental footprint (less water consumption, less CO2)
• Natural materials create healthier living and working environments - Stage of Development
