Short Summary
Italian companies participating in an International Open Innovation Program seek micro-enterprises, SMEs, scale-ups, start-ups, spin-offs, laboratories, research groups or researchers offering technological solutions regarding climate change, natural resources and biodiversity. All solutions should focus on manufacturing methods and industrial optimization and have a minimum TRL of 3. Participation in the program is free and research and/or commercial cooperation between partners is envisaged.
Full Description
IOIP is the International Open Innovation Programme based in Emilia-Romagna (Italy), that aims to support local companies to address specific business challenges by creating strategic matches with other organisations of the international innovation ecosystem. The call is dedicated to national and international Solvers from business or research world with a solution or know-how suitable to the open call challenges.
Participants will have the opportunity to propose their solutions for the challenges launched by the 31 partner companies from Emilia-Romagna, initiating potential pilots and collaborations. The challenges are grouped into clusters.

Cluster 2: MANUFACTURING METHODS AND INDUSTRIAL OPTIMIZATION
This cluster includes challenges aimed at the development of innovative methods and processes in industrial production, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance efficiency and product quality.

10. Solutions for automating sugar beet transplant processes
Solutions to automate sugar beet farming processes consisting in nursery, calibration and transplanting of stecklings. The solution can be a new machine or an add-on, i.e. a component to be integrated into the machines already in use by farmers

11. Sustainable solutions for disposable medical devices in advanced wound care treatment
Innovative materials or technologies to optimize performance of disposable medical devices to be used in advanced wound care treatment. The ideal solution would meet (at least one) of the following requirement: have functional properties (e.g., be antibacterial) and ensure comfort/ease of use

12. Solutions to merge steel and titanium for automotive exhaust pipes production
Solutions to merge steel and titanium, to obtain an alloy to produce exhaust pipes for the automotive sector. The company wants to create a high performing material that combines the key properties of both metals

13. Innovative methods or technologies for surface treatments of medical filters
Innovative surface treatment methods or techniques for medical filters. The ideal solution should improve filters’ performance, sustainability (e.g., be PFAS-free) and/or allow the company to enhance the efficiency of the filters’ production process

14. Sustainable sound-absorbing materials for noise reduction in industrial machinery
Innovative sound-absorbing materials to be inserted into industrial machinery. The ideal solution is sustainable, ensure a compact and optimized design, as well as comply with fire safety regulations

15. Innovative durable and hard materials for steel cutting
Innovative, high performing and durable materials for the production of steel cutting blades. The ideal material must have sufficient hardness to minimize blade wear over time

Solutions sought should have a minimum TRL of 3 and ensuring compliance with Warranties, Intellectual Property Declarations and Content Conformity.
Participation in the program is free and research and/or commercial cooperation is envisaged depending on the solutions’ TRL. The 31 companies will discuss the type of cooperation with the potential partners.

IMPORTANT:
This technology request refers to an open innovation challenge program published on a separate online platform (b2match). Interested business/research organisations will be guided to the Program website (https://ioip-2025.b2match.io/). Applicants will receive a link to submit their proposal after creating an EOI.

During registration, interested applicants will be asked to select one challenge that corresponds with this technology request profile. If admitted to the programme, participants will be able to create their (presentation) profile to connect with the companies in order to organise 1to1 matchmaking meetings.
Application closes on the 11th of July and 25th of July 2025 is the last day for matchmaking meetings.
It is recommended to submit the application as soon as possible to take full advantage of the entire matchmaking period.

Expected Role of a Partner
Potential partners are micro-enterprises, SMEs, scale-ups, start-ups, spin-offs, laboratories, research groups and individual researchers with a solution or know-how compliant with the challenges and with a minimum TRL of 3 from any of the Enterprise Europe Network countries.
Participants are required to propose innovative ideas and/or solutions to challenges launched.

The solution offered should demonstrably meet one of the business challenges. In the Application form, suitable solvers are invited to answer questions regarding their expertise, innovative solutions, business model, industries and sectors in scope.
After being selected, the goal is to co-develop concrete pilots and a go-to-market strategy under research or commercial cooperation agreement.
