General information

Short Summary
Italian R&D centre is working on an Interreg IPA ADRION project proposal (SO 2.3) coordinated by a Slovenian institute to reduce mineral oil contamination in oils and traditional foods. The consortium seeks a partner from IPA ADRION Programme area such as: Food/oils producers associations, Laboratories and research centres, Agricultural schools and training institutes.
Full Description
The Food Competence Centre of an Italian R&D organisation is searching for a project partner for an Interreg project proposal.

The project effectively addresses mineral oil contamination in oils and traditional food products, a shared challenge across IPA Adriatic-Ionian countries, impacting product quality, food safety, environmental protection and consumer trust. The initiative aims to improve oils and food products quality, support eco-tourism, and stimulate local economies through data-driven policy support towards attractiveness and competitiveness. It focuses on minimizing contamination along the production chain via joint strategies, sustainable practices, and knowledge exchange. Innovative, cross-border actions include exploring lesser-known contamination pathways and establishing a network of capable laboratories.
The project faces challenges related to contamination prevalence, especially in light of upcoming EU limits, lack of standardized monitoring, limited operator awareness (particularly outside the EU), and the need for cross-border cooperation in the ADRION area.
The goal is to reduce contamination through coordinated, evidence-based strategies. Objectives include analysing farming and processing methods to pinpoint contamination sources, developing mitigation strategies, providing support to laboratories for accurate analyses, and training stakeholders. Outputs will include shared databases, a digital platform for data exchange, technical guidelines, validated methods, and capacity-building events.

The project partnership is composed by Universities, R&D organisations, laboratories, business organisations and producers.
The project is coordinated by a major Slovenian research institute, and is looking for the following partners: Food/oils producers associations, Laboratories and research centres, Agricultural schools and training institutes, located in the following countries: Greece, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro.

Timeline: The Second call for proposals of the Interreg IPA ADRION is scheduled to close on 30th June 2025.
EoIs sent by 6th June 2025 will be evaluated by the Lead Partner.
