Full Description
The Romanian Museum was founded on August 23, 1881, by a Royal Decree signed by King Carol I.
The Museum is an institution that preserves, restores and enhances the cultural heritage but it is also a research institution and a cultural and educational center.
The Museum manages 9 buildings and includes 6 sections and 2 departments:
o Archaeology,
o Modern and Contemporary History,
o Ethnography and Folk Art,
o Art - including the "Nicăpetre" Cultural Centre,
o Memorials:
o "Panait Istrati" Memorial House,
o "Dumitru Panaitescu Perpessicius" Memorial House,
o "Nae Ionescu, Anton Dumitriu, Vasile Băncilă, Ana Aslan, Edmond Nicolau, Valeriu Dinu" Memorial Centre,
o "Fănuș Neagu" Memorial House
o Natural Sciences Department,
o Restoration - Conservation Laboratories (ceramics, metal, textile and ethnographic collections, wood and furniture, art, painting, book and document, natural science collections) and Heritage repositories;
o Public Relations Department - which also coordinates the Cultural Diversity Centre
o Istros Publishing House.
Temporary exhibitions, conferences, symposia, scientific sessions, concerts, competitions, workshops, other educational activities, social campaigns, etc. are organised regularly by the Museum.

Important collections - including heritage objects classified as Treasures. Internationally renowned collections (Max Herman Maxy, Nicăpetre, Panait Istrati etc.);

Awards:
o 2002 - "Iulian Antonescu" Award for museum reorganization of the spaces;
o 2003 - "Petre Comarnescu" Award for the Nicăpetre Retrospective;
o 2005 - "Alexandru Oprea" Award for the itinerant exhibition "Time of Words", realized by the Museum in collaboration with MLR Iasi;
o Istros" Publishing House (724 titles) - Prize of the Romanian Academy (19 books); Prize of the Academy of Scientists, Prize of the Cultural Foundation "Magazin Istoric";
Temporary exhibitions organized at important museums in Romania;
Permanent collaborations with prestigious institutions in Romania: institutes of the Romanian Academy, cultural institutes, universities, ethnic communities:
Romanian Institute of Culture and Humanistic Research in Venice - Italy, Romanian Cultural Institute "Dimitrie Cantemir" in Istanbul - Turkey, Romanian Embassy in the Kingdom of the Netherlands,
etc.;

Research, cultural and publishing projects funded by the National Institute for Research and Development in Optoelectronics (INOE-CERTO); National Centre for Program Management; Romanian Government; Ministry of Culture; Administration of the National Cultural Fund, Union of Romanian Architects, etc. - 2 Awards.
Participation in national and international book fairs and exhibitions.
