Full Description
NATTOUR is a Greek civil non-profit organization founded in 2016, with a management team boasting over 35 years of experience in tourism and hospitality development, marketing, and media. NATTOUR is the owner of the "Bike Friendly" private label, which is awarded to destinations, accommodations, and points of interest that meet specific criteria for facilitating and servicing cyclists. Eligible entities include cities, hotels, wineries, museums, beaches, and other attractions that prioritize cyclist-friendly infrastructure and services.
The mission of NATTOUR is to educate and inform hoteliers, local authorities, and tourism stakeholders on the benefits of promoting cycling tourism. By encouraging visitors to explore destinations by bicycle, NATTOUR supports sustainable travel practices that reduce traffic congestion, carbon emissions, and noise pollution while offering tourists a unique and enriching experience.
The Bike Friendly network currently includes 140 awarded hotels, 10 cities/destinations, 4 wineries, 60 partners, and 50 Greek Bike Specialists, holding an unrivaled position in Greece. To foster collaboration and growth within the network, NATTOUR organizes annual events like the "Bike Friendly Forum" and "Bike Friendly Days," as well as B2B matchmaking sessions both online and in-person. Additionally, NATTOUR actively participates in major travel and cycling trade fairs across Greece and Europe to raise awareness and build partnerships.
The Bike Friendly project is under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
As part of its strategic expansion, NATTOUR aims to introduce the Bike Friendly label to international markets through a franchise model. This approach ensures consistent brand representation, adherence to the label’s sustainability principles, and adaptation to local market characteristics. By collaborating with qualified partners, NATTOUR seeks to create a globally recognized network of Bike Friendly destinations, accommodations, and attractions.
Through these efforts, NATTOUR aspires to make cycling tourism an integral part of sustainable travel worldwide, enhancing economic opportunities, fostering community engagement, and promoting environmental stewardship.
Advantages and Innovations
The "Bike Friendly" label by NATTOUR offers a unique, innovative approach to sustainable tourism by integrating cycling into travel experiences. It provides destinations, accommodations, and attractions with clear criteria to attract cycling enthusiasts, enhance guest experiences, and contribute to environmental conservation. This focus on cycling tourism addresses the growing demand for eco-friendly travel while reducing traffic congestion, carbon emissions, and noise pollution.
One of the key advantages of the Bike Friendly label is its comprehensive support system. NATTOUR educates tourism stakeholders on the economic and environmental benefits of cycling tourism, ensuring they are equipped to meet cyclists' needs, from bike rentals to infrastructure development. By facilitating networking and matchmaking among members, the initiative creates new business opportunities and encourages collaborative growth.
The annual events organized by NATTOUR, such as the "Bike Friendly Forum," provide valuable platforms for knowledge-sharing and partnership-building, while participation in trade fairs strengthens the label’s visibility on a global scale. With no competition in Greece, NATTOUR’s Bike Friendly network has established itself as a market leader, poised for international expansion.
The franchise model chosen for this growth ensures consistent application of the label’s principles across diverse markets while leveraging local expertise. This model not only strengthens the global cycling tourism network but also promotes sustainable travel practices, driving economic growth, and enhancing community engagement.
By fostering a worldwide community of Bike Friendly destinations, NATTOUR is setting a new standard in tourism, where environmental responsibility and exceptional visitor experiences go hand in hand.
