General information
- Short Summary
- A Spanish Biotech start-up dedicated to the development of innocuous insect repellent products with efficacy ranging from 6 to 48 hours, along with R&D, has developed a proprietary platform technology capable of modifying natural glycosides through natural enzymatic processes, creating a new long-lasting and low-toxicity product. The repellent, already available in some European countries, protects for over 12 hours. The company is looking for a license agreement.
- Full Description
-
Spanish biotechnology company has developed a new biomimetic platform technology for developing topical products from sugars. This represents a completely new concept in the process of releasing compounds for topical application on human skin, based on natural processes. Using cell-free enzymatic synthetic biology techniques, different types of sugars are linked to natural molecules to form more stable glycoconjugates. Upon contact with the skin, the products are metabolized and the natural molecule is released again, providing a stable, effective and long-lasting method.
This solution is very different from current products on the market, which are mainly based on synthetic chemicals that can be harmful to humans and offer very limited long-lasting protection, something that also characterizes existing natural products.
The company has already launched its solution in several European countries: a Citriodiol-based insect repellent that, using the patented “GLYCO-PROSIDE” technology for the controlled release of biologically active natural ingredients, provides long-lasting protection for more than 12 hours, making it suitable for sports activities and water-resistant. The company is seeking a licensee or commercial partner for its botanically derived insect repellents. The Biotech Start-Up continues to research and develop new insect repellents using new technologies and molecules, and has already conducted human trials with a PMD-based insect repellent. PMD (para-menthane-3,8-diol) is a natural compound derived from eucalyptus, known for its potent mosquito-repellent properties. The product has shown very impressive results, with tests demonstrating up to 24 hours of repellent activity. This product will be launched shortly. In the future, the company is also looking for license agreements to further expand its reach and development. - Advantages and Innovations
