General information

Short Summary
A Basque SME with more than 30 years of experience in the electrolytic coatings sector is looking for a technology provider able to integrate a nano-layer continuous measurement system for iron, chromium and/or nickel into its production line. The technology sought will have to work in pickling and passivation acid baths used for stainless steel products fabrication. The company is looking for a commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Full Description
The company’s objective is to enhance the efficiency and precision of the pickling and passivation process by implementing advanced technologies for real-time monitoring and control of contaminant levels. This Basque SME aims to improve the quality of the stainless-steel surface treatment while minimizing environmental impact and optimizing resource utilization. The company is interested in technologies that offer continuous and reliable measurement of iron, chromium, and nickel concentrations in the acid bath. Ideally, the solution should provide real-time data and allow for automatic adjustments to maintain optimal conditions. Robustness, accuracy, and compatibility with existing stainless steel processing equipment are essential considerations.
The technology sought should also have nano-layer precision. The problem to be solved can be summarized in the following points:

1. Quality Assurance: Maintaining precise control over contaminant levels is crucial for achieving high-quality surface treatment of stainless steel. Contaminants such as iron, chromium, and nickel can adversely affect the final product's properties, corrosion resistance, and appearance
2. Process Efficiency: Continuous measurement and control are essential for optimizing the pickling and passivation process. Real-time monitoring allows for immediate adjustments, ensuring consistent conditions and reducing the likelihood of defects or variations in the treated stainless steel.
3. Environmental Impact: Efficient control of contaminants not only improves product quality but also minimizes the environmental impact of the process. Precise monitoring helps in reducing chemical usage and waste generation
Sustainable Development Goals
Goal 6: Clean Water and SanitationGoal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
IPR description
The technology this company is looking for will have to cope with some challenges.
• Harsh Environment: Acid baths pose challenges for sensors and monitoring equipment, requiring solutions that can withstand corrosive conditions
• Accuracy and Reliability: Ensuring the accuracy and reliability of continuous monitoring systems is essential for maintaining product quality
• Integration with Existing Equipment: The technology needs to seamlessly integrate with existing pickling or passivation equipment and processes
Current technologies available for the company include a combination of traditional batch testing, manual control, and more advanced sensor technologies, each with its limitations. The challenge is to acquire or adopt a solution that offers continuous, accurate, and reliable measurement and control of contaminants in the demanding environment of acid baths.

Partner Sought

Expected Role of a Partner
