An Austrian steel service center developed a novel and advantageous packaging system especially for steel and metal sheets and plates which may be used for all sensible and corrosive materials in cuboid shape.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
Steel sheets and plates and other corrosion sensitive products need to be protected from corrosion during storage and transport. During transport and storage, sheet packages are often exposed to various weather conditions and moisture, which can significantly affect the quality and durability of the sheets. In addition, inefficient packaging makes it difficult to repeatedly remove individual sheets, as conventional protective measures are often no longer fully effective after the first opening. It is estimated that around 4% of the gross national product in industrialized countries is lost directly and indirectly caused by such corrosion issues.
DESCRIPTION OF THE SOLUTION
The innovative solution combines a state-of-the-art VCI foil (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) with a patented reclosure system. That enables repeated removal and resealing of sheet packs without compromising corrosion protection. It combines this functionality with a special process that reliably protects sheet metal packs from moisture and mechanical impact. This means that the quality of the material is maintained even after repeated opening under changing environmental conditions. This significantly improves handling efficiency, the longevity of the stored sheets (reduced material losses, guaranteed quality) and significant material losses.

1. Steel or metal sheets and plates in all rectangular sizes
2. Any other rectangular product or cuboid packaging shape that is sensitive to corrosion and needs to be reclosed during transport or storage.
