General information

Short Summary
A Copenhagen-based graphic design studio with a strong background in branding and iconic designs is seeking a production partner. The company aims to transform its iconic manhole cover design, already famous in Danish municipalities, into a line of gold-plated sterling silver jewellery. The partner will provide services in laser cutting, polishing, soldering, and gold plating to bring this design into jewellery form.
Full Description
This Copenhagen-based design studio is widely recognised for its innovative approach to graphic design and branding. Having successfully created iconic visual elements, such as a distinctive manhole cover design seen across Copenhagen, the studio now plans to expand this design into the jewellery market.

The studio intends to translate its unique manhole cover design into high-quality, gold-plated sterling silver jewellery, focusing initially on earrings. The studio requires a production partner who can handle the complete manufacturing process, including:

- Laser cutting sterling silver sheets from Illustrator vector files.
- Polishing and mounting the silver onto ear studs.
- Soldering and gold-plating the final pieces with 24-carat gold.

A production facility capable of scaling to large volumes while maintaining high-quality standards is essential. The studio is aiming for a long-term collaboration as it expands its jewellery designs and sales.
Advantages and Innovations
The design was originally commissioned by HOFOR - Greater Copenhagen Utility, for manhole covers. HOFOR provides a number of services in the Greater Copenhagen Area such as supplying drinking water, district heating, town gas, district cooling, and disposing of wastewater. Furthermore, they establish wind turbines and solar cell systems.

The Danish company found inspiration in HOFOR's vision of developing sustainable towns and cities through climate-friendly and environmentally-safe supply solutions. In an effort to combat climate change, HOFOR is striving to make the energy supply CO2-neutral and to lower urban energy consumption through various initiatives, ranging from energy consultancy to the renovation of waterworks and power stations. This vision led the Danish company to draw the design featuring the tree with birds. The design is unique, symbolizes sustainability, and has a special background story, making it ideal for fine jewellery as it possesses a certain visual quality for wearing.

IPR description
The company is looking for a partner who can handle the process described from the casting and/or cutting to the finished production of a larger volume of jewellery. Production and the use of materials must live up to legal requirements and certifications.

The ideal partner should be able to:

- Laser cut 1-1.2 mm thick sterling silver sheets based on provided vector files.
- Polish the cut silver, and solder it onto ear studs with a 6 mm diameter round flat disc.
- Perform 24-carat gold plating on the finished earrings.
- Ensure consistent quality and provide scalable production capacity, starting with an initial order of 500 units, potentially increasing to 1000 units in the following year, divided between Q1 and Q3.
- Have experience with bespoke packaging for jewellery, including custom logo printing.

The company is interested in a cost model where the unit price decreases with the number of units ordered.
