General information

Short Summary
Slovenian researchers have developed a decision support system for assessment and management of sustainability of legume agri-food value chains (production, processing, transport and distribution, market and retailers, and consumers). Partners are sought from consultancy industry for the agri-food sector or policy making stakeholders for technical cooperation agreements.
Full Description
Slovenian researchers have developed a web-based decision support system (DSS) for legume agri-food chains. The DSS is aimed to help producers, farm advisors and consultants, policy-makers, researchers, students, stakeholders and other end-users to assess and model the sustainability of legume-based farming systems and other links of the chain and the agri-food chain as a whole. The system includes a web-based decision support tool, including data storage and user interface components.
Advantages and Innovations
The DSS is based on the hierarchical qualitative multi-criteria models, using the proprietary integrative methodology. The methodology is available and have been applyed also as a separate computer program for multi-attribute decision making in a wide range of other domains. It is supporting complex decision-making tasks, where there is a need to select a particular option from a set of possible ones so as to satisfy the goals of the decision maker. A multi-attribute model is a hierarchical structure that represents the decomposition of the decision problem into subproblems, which are smaller, less complex and possibly easier to solve than the complete problem. Models developed by the DSS are qualitative and generally consist of qualitative (discrete) attributes. This makes the DSS particularly suitable for solving sorting/classification decision-analysis tasks, where options need to placed in a finite number of predefined categories.

Partner Sought

Expected Role of a Partner
The Slovenian research institute is looking for for agri-food consultants, policy-makers, producers, farm advisors to integrate the DSS in the modeling sustainability of legume-based farming systems and other links of the agri-food chain.

The researchers will provide possibility to teest the DSS system and the partners will could experimentaly use the DSS to provide feedback to the researchers of the DSS for integration into existing consultancy and policy making processes in the agri-food sector.
