General information

Short Summary
A European consortium is searching for a MedTech or Healthcare IT Systems company to take their mobile solution to market.
The solution is a dedicated app with passive sensing features, addressing patients with Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), gathers the patient's data, allowing clinicians to analyse it on a dedicated platform. The solution can monitor finger dexterity, gait and physical activity, plus mental health, accurately and without any burden to the patient.
Full Description
The system comprises four modules: a smartphone app for patients, a web app for clinicians, a cloud server, and an electronic Case Report Form (eCRF). Patients will be able to use a mobile app on their smartphones to report symptoms, functionality, and quality of life. In addition, sensors and logs built into the smartphone, will objectively track digital endpoints related to hand dexterity (as a proxy for functionality or disease activity), gait and physical activity (as a proxy for mobility, fatigue, and pain), and sociability patterns (as a proxy of mental health and well-being). The web app will allow clinicians to analyse the data collected by the patient.
A secure cloud server middleware and the electronic Case Report Form (eCRF) will ensure the patient's data is managed and processed according to GDPR and the highest clinical research standards.
The system is envisioned as an extension to patient care, collecting additional data about the patient, to discuss during medical appointments with the rheumatologist. It is also possible to use the system for clinical research and drug trials, with the system connecting directly to a market electronic Case Report Form (eCRF).
Advantages and Innovations
The system has been co-designed with patients and rheumatologists, by a consortium that includes a research institute, hospitals, and SMEs working in healthcare or clinical research. First version of the system is being tested in a feasibility trial in Portugal. The medical device validation trials are on progress. The Quality Management System and the preparation of all documentation have started, aiming to accelerate certification process.
