General information

Short Summary
A group of researchers from a reputable university located in Izmir, have developed "Disposable Electrodes Based on Nanoclay Composites" for diagnostic kit applications targeting the electrochemical detection of various diseases and environmental pollutants. The developed electrode and method, which can be integrated into portable devices, offers the opportunity to analyze in a cost-effective, reliable and practical way.
Full Description
"Disposable Electrodes Based on Nanoclay Composites" is a disposable carbon-based disposable electrode modified with nanocomposite containing disposable nanoclay and conductive material, and is intended for applications for the electrochemical determination of various diseases, environmental pollutants and toxins. It is a diagnostic kit application that can be used by all laboratories, hospitals and health institutions, R&D units and personnel working in universities aiming to diagnose and monitor the course of many diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes by targeting biomarkers in various biological environments; and by R&D units, laboratories and personnel working in universities aiming to determine environmental pollutants and toxins. Compared to the existing techniques with long-term, laborious and costly procedures in the related fields, it is aimed to perform diagnostics and analyzes based on electrochemical method that is sensitive, selective, low-cost, fast and practical to use with "Disposable Electrodes Based on Nanoclay Composites".

The preparation time of a carbon-based disposable electrode modified with a nanocomposite containing nanoclay and conductive material is 30 minutes, and in its application developed using differential pulse voltammetry technique based on electrochemical method for cancer diagnosis, the determination time in 40 uL sample was reported as 45 minutes and the measurement time as approximately 1-2 minutes. The determination of various diseases can be developed with disposable diagnostic kits based on the electrochemical method, which can be applied at the point of care in a cost-effective, reliable, sensitive and selective manner and can be integrated into a handheld device for fast and practical use.

By using the developed electrodes, it is aimed to perform analysis in a cost-effective, reliable, sensitive, selective, fast and practical way as a result of the development of chip technology targeting the analysis of various environmental pollutants and toxins and making it portable. The "Disposable Electrodes Based on Nanoclay Composites" developed within the scope of the invention is at TRL 4 level and prototype development has been realized at lab level. The developed "Disposable Electrodes Based on Nanoclay Composites" are commercially applicable. In this context, the company is looking for commercial agreements with companies in the biomedical, medical, molecular biology and genetics, engineering, bioengineering, biotechnology, related sectors.
Advantages and Innovations
The "Disposable Electrodes Based on Nanoclay Composites" developed within the scope of the invention perform the electrochemical determination of various diseases and environmental pollutants in a low-cost, fast, easy-to-use, reliable and sensitive manner. These nanocomposite electrodes have been developed to be used by personnel working in laboratories, hospitals and R&D units.

These electrodes, which are faster, more sensitive and cost-effective than conventional methods, can be used in the diagnosis of diseases such as cancer. They are also applicable to the analysis of various environmental pollutants and toxins. The developed electrode and method, which can be integrated into portable devices, offer the opportunity to analyze in a cost-effective, reliable and practical way.

Compared to the existing techniques with long-term, laborious and costly procedures in related fields, it is aimed to perform diagnostics and analyzes based on electrochemical methods that are sensitive, selective, low-cost, fast and practical to use with "Disposable Electrodes Based on Nanoclay Composites".

The developed nanocomposite electrodes will be integrated into the handheld device and disposable diagnostic kits will be developed based on the electrochemical method showing fast and practical use. Nanoclay composite electrodes within the scope of the invention have been developed by modification of halloysite nanoclay-ionic liquid composite on the electrode surface and the exemplary application is shown for cancer diagnosis. In the prior art, there is no work on the development of biosensors based on "Disposable Electrodes Based on Nanoclay Composites".
