General information
- Short Summary
-
A Dutch SME has developed an innovative smart city noise monitoring solution offering concrete improvement actions to all stakeholders involved.
After successfull projects in the Netherlands and Belgium they are now looking for partners abroad that are interested to integrate noise solutions in the (smart city) platforms they offer to municipalities, within the framework of a commercial agreement with technical assistance. - Full Description
-
Extensive research has shown that after air quality, noise nuisance is the most important threat to a healthy living environment in municipalities. However it is difficult to improve since a lot of stakeholders are involved each having their own subjective opinion about what is acceptable. That's why this company has developed an innovative smart city noise monitoring solution offering concrete improvement actions to all stakeholders involved.
The technology consists of networks of small energy efficient noise monitoring stations in combination with a scalable SaaS platform, which translates the measurement data into meaningful and actionable information. Their noise solutions offer the possibility to interpret noise by distinguishing the type of noise source, the place, the time, the loudness and the annoyance (based on AI/ML).
The combination of products and services offer continuous real-time measuring and identifying and localizing noise sources and converts this measurement data into transparent, understandable and manageable information for all stakeholders (resident, noise maker, government) in a municipality or industry district. It supports real-time automatic detection and localisation of nuisance (or other noise events) and enables residents to report nuisance directly online, so that complaints will be handled much faster and with minimal labour effort. It enables municipalities and companies to prioritize and validate measures taken to enhance the living environment.
Perhaps the most important feature is that residents can gain direct insight into the quality of their living environment with respect to noise and the reason why. In addition residents can actively participate in improving their living environment based on objective data. Since all stakeholders become aware of the nuisances, it will enable self-regulation for avoidable noise sources. This self-regulation has proven to be successful in many cities in the Netherlands and Belgium. Examples are:
• Music noise at events and entertainment venues.
• Enabling large industrial areas and harbors to reduce their noise emission.
• Reduction of noise emitted from construction sites.
• Reducing the nightlife noise (people shouting, screaming, singing). (winner innovation prize smart city 2022)
• Reduction of peak noise caused by too loud (modified) motorcycles or cars.
• Reduction of noise emission from construction sites
After the successfull projects mentioned above, the company is now looking for partners abroad that are interested to integrate noise solutions in the (smart city) platforms they offer to municipalities, within the framework of a commercial agreement with technical assistance. - Advantages and Innovations
-
The main advantages and innovations of their technology comprise:
- Innovative, small, energy efficient, autonomous, wireless (LTE-M), low maintenance, noise monitoring station (NMS) optimized for installation on any and new ZHAGA based lighting infrastructure.
- NMS can measure, localise, and recognise noise events, based on edge-based AI/ML models (which can be deployed on demand).
- Complies and support all European noise monitoring parameters, spectral data, audio which enable to use in numerous (proven) use cases.
- a scalable SaaS platform, which translates the measurement data into meaningful and actionable information.
- Dashboards for insight in annoyance, from music events, industrial noise, construction noise, traffic noise, night live (people), fireworks and awareness triggers (nudges).
- Extreme easy (real-time) integration within any smart city platform, API and MQTT.
- ISO27001 certified platform and organisation, ensuring the privacy of the data.
- Clear and understandable insight for residents in the quality of their living environment with respect to noise, enabling them to participate in improving it.
- Multiple ways to stimulate self-regulation, to reduce annoyance. - Stage of Development
