- A Dutch medtech start-up is looking to join a consortium for a IHI 9th Call (SO2) application to improve a new natural, hydrogel-based gastric device. The additional partners should be active in 3D printing (DLP, SLA or extrusion), preferably for natural or synthetic polymers and have access to tensile + pressure testers. Additionally, expertise in encapsulation and/or coating technology would be a pre. Proposal submission for the call deadline is. A research cooperation agreement is foreseen.
- Full Description
-
A Dutch medtech start-up is specialized in the development of innovative biomedical solutions for treatment of obesity and chronic diseases and recently developed a food-based, self-inflating and digestible gastric balloon, which you take as a pill under guidance of a professional.
Obesity is one of the greatest public health challenges of the 21st century. Gastric bypass and other gastric surgeries, which are the most successful treatment options, shrink stomach volume with surgical modification.
In a similar manner gastric space filling with gastric balloons shrinks stomach volume. It is anticipated that further clinical studies will demonstrate that the balloon after expanding in the acid environment of the stomach provides benefits similar to the results seen with bariatric surgery or existing gastric balloons, but without the need for trained surgeons and other advanced medical knowledge and facilities.
For a IHI 9th Call (SO2) call the company is looking for R&D partners:
- Partners who can help to work with 3D printing (DLP, SLA or extrusion) in the manufacturing process. Experience with
production lines for medical devices and GMP processes are a pre. Experience with preferably natural or synthetic
polymers. Access to tensile + pressure testing equipment.
- Additionally, expertise in encapsulation and/or coating technology would be a pre.
The company would be interested to join a consortium to submit a proposal before the deadline of 29/04/2025.
A research cooperation is foreseen. - Advantages and Innovations
