General information
- Short Summary
-
A team of inventors from an established Slovak scientific and research institution and established Czech scientific and research institution have developed a new innovative technology for the synthesis of a highly homogeneous and ordered mixture of cellulose and 2D layered materials (2DLM) by exfoliation of nanolayer in a viscous paste, which consists of a mixture of alkaline silicate (or waterglass) and cellulose.
The preferred cooperation type are commercial agreement or investment agreement. - Full Description
-
A high yield of exfoliation of precursor powders into 2DLM nanoparticles is achieved in a semi-solid exfoliation medium consisting of a highly viscous mixture of low-modulus water glass and microfibrillated cellulose. Until now, the 2DLM exfoliation process has been widely researched and tested by various methods by the scientific community and industrial corporations, but each of them has serious shortcomings and has proven to be unsuitable for universal use in all areas of material processing. Because of this, there has always been a lack of a unified technology, and until now each strategy has been used according to the application's requirements.
A team of inventors from an established Slovak scientific and research institution and established Czech scientific and research institution have developed a new technology that proposes a highly versatile, low-cost, ecological strategy for the exfoliation of 2D layered materials up to multi-layered nanolayers using a highly viscous semi-solid water-based paste containing sodium silicate (i.e. waterglass) and cellulose fibers. The exfoliating medium can be easily removed or replaced with other solvents after exfoliation
The new innovative technology provides an efficient and ecological semi-liquid phase methodology for the exfoliation of 2D layered materials in an aqueous medium and simultaneously creates a mixture of cellulose/2D layered nanomaterials, possibly also with a hierarchically ordered structure. The water-based peeling medium avoids the inconvenience of using liquid phase organic solvents for 2DML exfoliation, which are usually expensive and toxic, while providing high exfoliation yield with high quality exfoliated products.
The institutions are looking for a partner to cooperate with via commercial agreement or investment agreement. - Advantages and Innovations
-
• the possibility to exfoliate several types of 2DLM one after the other or even simultaneously with the given medium (including hydrophobic ones),
• cost-effective and environmentally friendly (avoids the use of toxic and expensive solvents),
• the exfoliation process can be realized up to single-layer and few nanolayers in a very short period of time without the use of expensive machines,
• the 2DML exfoliation process is performed in a low shear rate mode (replaces speeds in terms of energy consumption and product quality). - Stage of Development
