General information

Short Summary
A company and a research institution from Latvia is seeking a partner for Eurostars Call 2024 project. The project will be about the development and production of recycled polymer balls for embedding in concrete panels. The partner should be with experience in the development of polymer composites. The role of the partner will be the development, implementation, and control of environmental protection measures in accordance with EU regulations. Other collaboration options will be considered.
Full Description
Currently the company use polymer balls with an empty centre as inserts in the concrete to reduce weight of cover panels, but it has several disadvantages. Firstly, the cost of polymer balls is comparable to the cost of concrete of the same volume, so the economic benefit is minimal. Secondly, such balls float up during the hardening of the concrete mass. To keep them on the neutral axis of the panel, special measures are required, which further increase the costs of the product.
The aim of the project is to develop and mass produce recycled polymer composite balls with a density close to that of the concrete and use them in the production of panels and other products. The balls of composite material are planned to be produced with the thermoforming method. The objectives of the project are to develop production technology for mass production of composite polymer inserts (balls) in concrete thus utilising waste polymer materials and reducing product costs.
Eurostars is international funding programme for Innovative SMEs wishing to collaborate on R&D projects that create innovative products, processes, or services for commercialisation.
The expected partner must have experience in polymer materials. Its role in the project will to deal with environmental problems in the production process and products in accordance with EU regulations. Other types of collaboration are also possible.
Deadline of the Eurostars Call 2024 is March 14, 2024.
Deadline for EoI is February 16, 2024.
Anticipated duration of the project - 3 years.
