General information
- Short Summary
- A Finnish organisation developing an open-source recommendation algorithm, a public-facing web platform and a commercial discovery service is looking for RDI collaborators, sales/distribution partners, and early adopters across Europe. The offering supports transparent, personalised content discovery and digital autonomy, targeting knowledge-intensive sectors and democratic media use.
- Full Description
-
A Finnish organisation is developing an open and transparent alternative to current proprietary content recommendation systems.
The offering includes three complementary components:
- An open-source collaborative filtering algorithm for content recommendation, identifying relevant content based on user similarity;
- A public-facing platform that leverages the algorithm to return curated content feeds based on user-supplied input (such as RSS feeds);
- A commercial discovery and monitoring service designed for professional and institutional users, integrating the same algorithm for improved content relevance and contextual intelligence.
The organisation’s development is part of a pilot project led by a Finnish university of applied sciences, with additional support from industry collaborators. The system is designed and hosted in the EU, with a strong emphasis on transparency, autonomy, and privacy.
Use cases span digital citizenship, media literacy, and knowledge work such as research, communication, and competitive intelligence. The system allows for explainability and user control, reducing filter bubbles and polarisation in digital media environments.
The company is currently in the prototype phase. The algorithm is under alpha testing, and the MVP for the public web interface is in development. Integration of the engine into the commercial service is also ongoing.
The organisation seeks the following partners across Europe:
- RDI collaborators, including universities, research institutions, and tech companies working on recommender systems, democratic media, or information retrieval;
- Sales and distribution partners for the commercial offering;
- Customer discovery contacts and early adopters willing to test the technology and provide feedback;
- Funding consultants or investors familiar with EU innovation funding or early-stage impact investment.
The partnership forms may include research collaboration, pilot projects, distribution agreements, or joint development initiatives. - Advantages and Innovations
-
- The recommendation engine is open-source and designed for explainability, giving users insight into why certain content is recommended.
- Enables greater user control and autonomy in content discovery, in contrast to opaque commercial algorithms.
- Reduces filter bubbles and polarisation by promoting diverse and relevant content across the open web.
- Entirely EU-hosted and designed with European values (privacy, transparency) in mind.
- Particularly useful for organisations working in research, communication, and knowledge management—saving time and enabling better decision-making.
- Distinct from mainstream solutions in that it supports open standards and user agency over black-box commercial logic. - Stage of Development
- Available for demonstration
