General information

Short Summary
A French SME developed a breveted anti-pine processionary caterpillar collar, which has become a national reference and is recommended by French institutions. The company is seeking partners to distribute the product across Europe, particularly in Mediterranean countries.
Full Description
Human and pets are protected from the health risks caused by the pine processionary caterpillar through the use of a protective collar. The caterpillars are captured as they descend in procession from pine trees at the end of their larval cycle and are directed into a bag filled with soil, where they pupate. This method relies on the insect's biological cycle, and does not involve pesticides or attractants. At the end of the procession period (generally around the end of may), the bag should be disposed of in household rubbish or burned according to local regulations. The bags are designed without PVC or chlorine.
By capturing and destroying the chrysalids, future reinfestation is reduced. Given the signification development of the processionary caterpillar in Mediterranean countries and its spread throughout northern Europe, there is a recognized demand for this collar in European Union markets.
The product was invented and patented in 2009. Thanks to an active R&D department, a second model has been registered, with a third soon to follow. A total of seven patents have been filed in France and Europe, along with three European trademarks.
