General information

Short Summary
A French Start-up aims to develop innovative multifunction wearable wristband including timing chips for runners taking part in foot races or other sports. The SME seeks a manufacturer of small, lightweight, semi-rigid, ergonomic shape and reusable passive UHF RFID timing chips. The partner should already work with companies selling timing equipment for outdoor large-scale sporting events. A supplier agreement is being sought with a producer of passive chips which can be used multiple times.
Full Description
The timing chip is a UHF RFID technology tag used for remote mass detection of participants in a sporting event outdoor. These events bring together between 200 and 25,000 participants.
In the French market, around 4,000,000 disposable chips end up in the bin every year. A market study tends to show that sport event organisers, runners and some timekeepers share the same issues concerning the disposable aspect (environmental), but also in terms of logistics and changing payment methods.

Some equipment manufacturers are already established in France through timekeepers who have purchased and are using their detection and timing equipment. The chips used by the equipment manufacturers are coded according to their own protocol so that they can only be read by the equipment they manufacture (antennas, cases, mats, etc.).

The French start-up develops durable wireless timing and payment wristband solution for runners, designed to help sports event organisers in their management and ecological transition, while facilitating the experience of participants. That will also enable the start-up to expand into other outdoor sporting activities and beyond France's borders.

The start-up therefore plans to form a partnership with an equipment manufacturer to jointly develop durable timing chips so that the solution can be detected by their timing equipment during large-scale sports events.

With this aims, the start-up is currently seeking a supplier of passive UHF RFID chips which can be used multiple times. A supplier agreement is sought with a producer of the reusable passive chips.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
The reusable RFID UHF technology chips must meet the following requirements:
-Dimensions 30mm x 20mm x 5 mm
-Ergonomic shape
-Powerful enough to be detected omnidirectionally at 5m by ultra-high frequency antennas
-10-year service life
-512 - bit USER memory
-TID from 64 to 96 bit
-96-bit EPC memory
-Minimum Read Sensitivity -18 dBm
-Omnidirectional radiation
-specially optimised for near-body applications
-small and lightweight

The required UHF RFID chips must be rigid enough not to bend and damage the antenna, but flexible enough to prevent breakage and injury to the rider in the event of a fall.

Partner Sought

Expected Role of a Partner
Type of partner:
Manufacturer of passive UHF RFID chips and already working with sports timekeepers. So that timekeepers do not need to invest in expensive equipment to use the runner wristbands. The chip must work with timing equipment already on the market, ideally all types.

Role of the partner:
The partner must supply small, ergonomic passive UHF RFID chips (to be purchased), which the French start-up will implement in its multifunction wristbands.
