General information

Short Summary
A German company developed an innovative and sustainable method for soil and substrate production, along with its special humus product. It is set to lead the market in sustainable soil and substrate solutions. With peat bans in many EU- countries, the market potential is high. The patented process combines liquid manure from biogas and municipal foliage into the humus product, an odourless and eco-friendly peat alternative. A partner is sought to produce the humus product using the new process.
Full Description
The modern soil and substrate production and its substrate materials face a critical juncture, necessitating innovative solutions to address extensive environmental concerns and ensure long-term sustainability as the use of peat in horticultural environments and in the cultivation of vegetables and agricultural crops will be banned in some EU countries in near future.

A German company introduces a novel substrate that will contribute to the broader discourse on sustainable agriculture and horticulture.

The production of this humus product is already up and running and can be visited. It starts with sourcing foliage, from municipal recycling and liquid manure from biogas plants. The leaves are conditioned using excess waste heat from existing biogas or other exothermic processes. The processed leaves are mixed with the liquid manure and the sustainable humus product is produced. The nutrients, such as, nitrogen, phosphorus, kalium and others can be regulated. Plant nutrients from the manure give a decent fertilizing effect to the product. It is furthermore possible to reduce the synthetic fertilizers used in substrates and thus not only to conserve energy but also to align with global efforts to mitigate environmental impact.

Three main stakeholders of the soil and substrate industry and the German company have carried out trials using the new humus product in soils and substrates for different plants. The growth of the leaves and roots were always comparable with the control group and better.
The German company seeks collaboration with an investment and/or production partner for producing the humus product. The partner sought is a company that takes in the raw materials and carries out the production process. The procurement and sale of the raw materials and the final product will be managed by the German company.
