General information

Short Summary
A very experienced German games studio develops serious games with a primary purpose that goes beyond entertainment, e.g. games used in education, health or employee training. The games are developed in-house from scratch and designed specifically to match the message the game is meant to convey.
The SME is open for commercial cooperation but also to participate in EU-funded research projects on various topics (e.g. health, energy) where they can add a unique component to a consortium.
Full Description
The SME is a German game developer with over 30 years of experience. They have a broad portfolio of commercial games and serious games, covering various fields such as employee training, exergaming, simulations, VR gaming and interactive exhibitions. The main focus is always to ensure that the game is fun and engaging, no matter the topic.

Serious games provide the opportunity to convey important messages in a lasting and engaging way. They can be used to educate on specific topics, demonstrate processes, encourage behavioural habits or to highlight the importance of certain values. Unlike more traditional methods such as seminars or web-based trainings, serious games can be very flexibly designed to fit the purpose and can employ various motivational mechanisms to ensure players actively engage with the content.

The SME has participated in research calls many times, including Horizon 2020 and Eurostar projects. They added a unique component to the consortia, which often played a central role in the projects, on which other studies and evaluations were based. The company is open to take part in any calls as an SME partner.

They are also interested in developing serious games for clients from any field under a commercial agreement.
Advantages and Innovations
Serious games offer various benefits depending on their application.

In a health context, serious games can be used to support treatment by offering a way to reach patients at home. This can be in the form of a game providing exercises for rehabilitation (Eurostars project, ref. available), a game to monitor the patient’s condition through questionnaires (H2020 project, ref. available) or a game motivating the players to be physically active (ref. available). Serious games can also provide valuable user feedback and user data via tracking, that can aid medical care takers in their decision making.

In a business context, they offer a learning environment in which employees are encouraged to actively engage with new knowledge and its day-to-day applications. This way employees can be effectively reached and learning content conveyed long term. Traditional learning methods like WTBs, workshops or lectures often fall short here – learning content is distributed but not understood or actively used by the employees.

In an educational context, serious games provide a low-risk environment for experimentation and failure. Games are a great way for players to safely experience the consequences of their actions through in-game mechanics, which makes them a good tool for teaching certain behaviours. Learning content is conveyed through the use of various motivational mechanisms that encourage players to interact with the content on a deep level and for a prolonged period of time.

Horizon Europe consortia could very much benefit from integrating serious games in their project, they can be implemented for all different kinds of topics and create a competitive edge.
The SME offers made-to-measure games. They design the games in close cooperation with their clients/partners to ensure that the contents are conveyed in the most effective way possible. They do not offer finished products but rather the know-how of developing a tailored product within a project.
