General information

Short Summary
The German manufacturer of a cancer early detection sensor, which is already established in the USA, is planning to enter the European market. The company will be based in Düsseldorf, Germany. For its commercial roll-out in Europe, the company is looking for an investor-operator who will establish a joint venture with them and provide capital, distribution power, etc. in return for shares in the joint venture.
Full Description
Early detection of skin lesions is crucial. Yet traditional visual assessment is entirely subjective and highly variable. The sensor helps assess cancerous lesions with speed and confidence and has been shown to result in more timely referrals to dermatology and improve peace of mind.

A U.S. company has developed a groundbreaking non-invasive, AI-based medical device for skin cancer detection and lesion analysis based on photon scattering. By examining the difference in light scattering, the sensor provides an immediate “Investigate Further” or “Monitor” output based on the lesion’s malignancy risk level. The sensor is small and handy and can be used in general practitioners‘ and dermatologists’ surgeries. It can also be used in skin clinics and aesthetic clinics.
The device is CE-Marked, and FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) certified since January 2024 as the first skin cancer detection device in the U.S.

The company is now looking to enter the European market. The company is based in Düsseldorf. The company is a private limited company under German law and is looking for investor-operator for joint venture.
Advantages and Innovations
The non-invasive spectroscopy technology detects the three most common cancer (skin cancer). The company's clinical validation studies have shown that the device algorithm's performance is higher than competetive devices and is comparable to that of in-person dermatologists specialized in skin cancer care. The Elastic Scattering Spectroscopy (ESS) technology has been validated in 30+ publications on clinical studies in various tissue types. Many studies have shown that ESS provides information that is comparable to histopathologic assessment in the analysis of cellular microscopic structure.
Clinical Highlights:
- 96% sensitivity for detecting the three most common skin cancers
- Proprietary, FDA Cleared algorithm provides instant results
- Enables objective referral prioritization using the device’s 0-10 result for cancer risk
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
In addition to the capital contributed, the partner would need to have sales, marketing and distribution power with corresponding customer support. Experience in the area of market access would be desirable in order to further expand the reimbursement situation.
