General information

Short Summary
A German research team has developed an Anti-Mite Dosage Kit (Evaporator) to precisely treat Varroa mites while protecting bee health.

This innovative solution assists beekeepers in the controlled application of formic acid, a common treatment for Varroa infestation.

The kit uses advanced electronics to ensure accurate dosing and effective distribution of treatment solutions, improving mite control while minimizing harm to bees. As a result, the profits may increase by up to 20 % .
Full Description
The Anti-Mite Dosage Kit is an evaporator system specifically designed for the accurate delivery of formic acid to control Varroa mites, which pose a serious threat to bee colonies. The system features a precise weighing mechanism combined with a custom-developed electronic control unit and microcontroller. These components continuously monitor and adjust the evaporation rate of the acid, which can be set between 0.5 g to 10 g per hour, ensuring that the dosage is both effective against mites and safe for bees.

The device operates by placing a sponge cloth soaked in formic or oxalic acid on a scale that continuously measures the evaporation rate. Four fans distribute the vaporized acid horizontally and vertically within the hive, promoting even treatment. The system is adaptable for use with different types of hives and can be powered via rechargeable batteries or photovoltaic panels, allowing for operation in a variety of settings without the need for external power sources.

Additionally, the system can be used to evaporate effective microorganisms (EM), which have been shown to strengthen the immune systems of bees. This dual functionality adds further value by supporting overall colony health, beyond just mite control.
Advantages and Innovations
• Accuracy: The electronic control unit allows beekeepers to accurately adjust the dosage, providing consistent and controlled evaporation of formic acid for mite treatment.

• Adaptable to Different Hive Sizes: The system is scalable and can be configured for a wide range of beekeeping setups, making it versatile for various operational needs.

• Renewable Power Supply: Designed for sustainability, the evaporator can run on solar power or rechargeable batteries, reducing dependency on conventional electricity sources.

• Integrated Colony Health Support: Beyond mite control, the system can also vaporize beneficial microorganisms, potentially enhancing bee immunity and improving overall hive resilience.

• Recognized Innovation: The system has been awarded a gold medal at IENA, highlighting its technical innovation and practical effectiveness. Additionally, the scientific group has received awards for nine projects, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and quality.

• Extensively Tested: Developed with input from experienced beekeepers, the system has undergone thorough field trials, demonstrating its reliability and ease of use.

• Economic Benefits: The economic assessment indicates a potential profit increase of approximately 20% due to reduced pest control product usage, allowing beekeepers to optimize their operational costs.

• Environmentally Friendly Materials: The system can be adapted to use eco-friendly materials such as wood, aligning with sustainability goals.

This system represents a significant advancement in mite treatment techniques by providing highly accurate dosing capabilities through advanced electronics. The use of microcontroller-regulated evaporation, combined with a versatile power supply and the ability to enhance bee health through microorganism vaporization, distinguishes this solution from existing methods. Its scalability and sustainability make it a practical tool for beekeepers looking to efficiently protect their hives.
