General information

Short Summary
A German SME involved in battery R&D has developed an innovative ultralight battery cell using a novel chemistry for lightweight battery packs. Current batteries are too heavy for many transportation applications. Therefore, the innovation allows for the electrification of vehicles in aviation, long-distance trucking, mining, construction, and agricultural equipment. They are searching for a consortium for call HORIZON-CL5-2024-D2-02-03 to develop a lightweight battery pack.
Full Description
The company is a spin-out of the German Aerospace Center and is commercializing an innovative battery design that is significantly lighter and safer than current battery technologies. In particular, they are pursuing innovation in the cathode active material and investigating different anode materials and electrolytes to build light, safe, and sustainable battery cells for the future transportation industry. The company is developing battery prototypes in pouch and cylindrical cell formats, which can be used in this project. They have strong connections to federal research institutions, universities, and players in the battery supply chain throughout Germany.

The underlying material innovation has been under development at the German Aerospace Center since 2012, has been presented in a multitude of publications, and has been protected by patent filings. The cathode active material is characterized by a specifically tailored nano-porous structure with high electrical conductivity and advantageous mechanical properties to allow for the design of an extremely lightweight and long-lasting battery cell. The company is currently expanding production and research capabilities to develop a cylindrical cell prototype.

HORIZON-CL5-2024-D2-02-03:
