General information
- Short Summary
- Italian ICT company carried out a demonstration project to develop an innovative business model in the field of facility and energy management, aiming to analyse buildings' performance and provide advanced management solutions, as complementary tools for energy-supplying services. The company has validated the system and it is looking for system integrators, facility/energy managers or utility companies to implement the business model under a research and development cooperation agreement.
- Full Description
-
SME located in North-West Italy, founded in 1995 as an internet solution and web-related services provider (such as website development, e-mail, and hosting), progressively expanded its business to the asset management sector and, more recently, to software development within the sector of building management.
Investing around 10% of its turnover in research and development, the company actively participates in research and feasibility projects to stay at the forefront of knowledge and keep transferring research results into new products and services.
In the framework of collaborative research activities funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the company, together with a local academic partner, conducted a demonstration project aimed at enhancing territorial sustainability through the development of an innovative business model complementing energy-supplying services with innovative IT tools for efficient management of buildings.
The resulting model, based on on-site sensors and an associated web app, allows to:
- collect on-site data about energetic and environmental parameters – e.g. electricity and natural gas consumption, temperature, humidity, and CO2/NOx/PM10/ volatile organic compounds levels;
- convert the data into multidimensional Key Performance Indicators - KPIs (energy, environment, finance, and socio-economics);
- aggregate the above-mentioned KPIs into four synthetic indexes, translated into monetary units and intuitive graphs, available on the web app.
The web app works as a benchmark to implement regeneration activities of the targeted building, by both checking its current status and predicting any negative occurrence, as well as providing prompt compensatory measures.
The KPIs score system, based on the preferences of buildings’ occupants, allows to suggest ad-hoc solutions to support energy providers in their supplying services, hence establishing a new business model with possible cross-cutting applications – from offices to industrial areas.
The model has been successfully validated and is now available for further implementation, having the potential of providing a professional service based on the experienced case study. The Italian company is therefore looking for facility/energy managers and system integrators, as well as utility companies, interested in testing and adopting the system under a research cooperation agreement, with a view to bring it to the market. - Advantages and Innovations
