General information
- Short Summary
- A institute from Lithuania, which has 13 institutes, 3 research centers and 22 laboratories, specializes in thermal insulation material derived from hemp waste that is resistant to degradation by microorganisms. Manufacturers of therman insulation material is looking for partners to work under a licensing agreement or technological cooperation agreement.
- Full Description
-
The Science Center from Lithuania is developing R&D project which is a thermal insulation material produced from hemp leaves (i.e. waste remaining in the hemp processing process). It is additionally treated with natural means to gain resistance to moisture and microorganisms. Structural or decorative panels made of such material can be used in construction (as thermal insulation material) and in furniture production (as body panels). Although it is difficult to predict at this stage of the product's development, it is not foreseen that its price may be higher and will significantly differ from the alternative boards currently used on the market.
• The R&D result would be applicable in the construction sector as a thermal insulation or structural panel. The second area of application could be furniture production.
• There are many alternatives for thermal insulation solutions on the market, but this solution would be completely green
• The solution would not exceed the market price.
The result of R&D is in the development stage - the board layout is being tested in laboratory conditions. Due to the very early stage of the project, no final decision has been made regarding the possibilities of intellectual property protection, the necessary certificates, the funds required for further product development. The team lacks marketing/sales competencies. After going through these steps, the product could be commercialized. - Advantages and Innovations
- The main uniqueness of this material is that it is completely ecological (both raw materials and the production process), it is non-allergenic. This R&D project also solves the problem that there is currently a lack of ecological thermal insulation materials on the market.
