General information
- Short Summary
- Swiss SME active in electronics offers Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) instruments for flexible and rigid Printed Circuit Board (PCB).The company uses modern computer vision, artificial intelligence algorithms, robotics and optics components to inspect PCBs. The SME is looking for a commercial agreement with technical assistance to test the use of their AOI instrument in the daily PCB production of companies and receive feedback regarding strengths and weaknesses of the instrument.
- Full Description
-
Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) are complex products, which require a considerable amount of time to be inspected by humans. Hence the manufacturers use Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) instruments to automate visual inspections of PCBs, which saves valuable time and money.
For a long time, some PCB defects have been detectable only by trained inspectors, because these defects were subtle, hence human level intelligence needed to surface these defects. Therefore many PCBs manufacturers still employ at least few human inspectors to check the PCB boards, which AOI instruments are not capable of inspecting.
The company offers a new AOI instrument which can match the intelligence of human inspectors and can locate the most subtle PCB defects (see image "PCB defect").
The company has integrated 1) modern computer vision, 2) artificial intelligence algorithms, 3) robotics and 4) optics components to bring an innovative AOI instrument to the market. The instrument has an intuitive user interface and needs little configuration for a new type of PCB board. (see image "Flex PCB panel inspection")
The SME is looking for a commercial agreement with technical assistance with companies in the electronics industry to test the AOI instrument during the daily PCB production and provide the Swiss SME with feedback regarding the strengths and weaknesses of the instrument. The SME is particularly interested to learn more about the accuracy of the AOI instrument as well as its speed and configuration requirements. - Advantages and Innovations
-
The AOI instrument
- can inspect both flexible and rigid PCBs. According to the SME's knowledge, there is no AOI instrument on the market today, which can handle shiny and brittle flex PCBs and inspect them.
- uses modern artificial intelligence and other computer vision algorithms to detect more than 30 different defect types. The defect detection works for different PCB types and layouts, hence the instrument needs little configuration to inspect a new PCB. - Stage of Development
