General information

Short Summary
Italian companies participating in an International Open Innovation Program seek micro-enterprises, SMEs, scale-ups, start-ups, spin-offs, laboratories, research groups or researchers offering technological solutions regarding climate change, natural resources and biodiversity.. All solutions should focus on sustainable materials, products and processes and have a minimum TRL of 3. Participation in the program is free and research and/or commercial cooperation between partners is envisaged.
Full Description
IOIP (International Open Innovation Programme) aims to support local companies to address specific business challenges by creating strategic matches with other organisations of the international ecosystem. The call is dedicated to national and international Solvers from both the business and research world with a solution or know-how suitable to the challenges.
Participants will have the opportunity to propose their solutions for the challenges launched by the 31 partner Corporates, initiating potential collaborations. The challenges are grouped into clusters

Cluster 3: SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS, PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES
This cluster includes challenges focused on developing innovative materials, products, and processes with minimal environmental impact, fostering the circular economy and reducing waste

16. Methodologies and tools for reusing pharmaceutical plastic waste materials
Methodologies and tools to reuse pharmaceutical waste, in particular mixed plastic and sludge from wastewater industrial treatment. The ideal solution would allow to transform waste materials into inputs for new value chains

17. Powder solution to absorb liquids
Powder solution to absorb liquids of varying densities, enabling the efficient collection of animal excrements without creating additional waste

18. Sustainable materials for tunnel excavation operations
Sustainable materials to be used in tunnel excavation processes, that can replace the currently used Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) while ensuring the same mechanical properties

19. Solutions for purifying and reusing wastewater from milk production processes
Solutions to recover condensate water generated during the milk production process, specifically from milk sterilization using direct steam injection

20. Solutions to achieve high barrier performance for cellulose-based packaging
Additives, methodologies, or technologies to enhance the barrier properties of dry molding cellulose packaging against water, fats, gases and aroma preservation

21. Materials and methodologies for compostable wood packaging suitable for food contact
Innovative materials and methods to produce primary waterproof wooden packaging. The ideal solution would allow the company to manufacture fully compostable and environmentally friendly wooden trays

22. Materials, methodologies and technologies for sustainable packaging
Methodologies, technologies and materials to reuse and reduce waste generated in the logistics industry, to reduce the environmental impact and improve the sustainability of food and consumer goods supply chains

23. Methodologies, tools and materials for sustainable packaging of industrial components
Innovative methodologies, tools or materials that would enable the company to maximize the recyclability of packaging materials and processes used for shipping industrial components (specifically, cartridge valves)

Solutions sought by the companies participating in this cluster should have a minimum TRL of 3 and ensuring compliance with Warranties, Intellectual Property Declarations and Content Conformity
The 31 companies will discuss the exact type of cooperation with the potential partners.

IMPORTANT
This technology request refers to an open innovation challenge program published on a separate online platform (b2match). Interested business or research organisations will be guided to the Program website (https://ioip-2025.b2match.io/). Applicants will receive a link to submit their proposal after creating an EOI.
During registration, applicants will be asked to select one challenge that corresponds with this technology request profile. If admitted to the programme, participants will benefit from business modelling and pitching training support and they will be able to create their (presentation) profile to connect with the companies in order to organise 1to1 meetings.

Application closes on the 27th of July 2025 and the 11th of July is the last day for matchmaking meetings.
