General information
- Short Summary
- The company has developed and patented a unique carpenter / plaster aid which makes cutting accurate straight lines quicker and easier.
- Full Description
-
In the construction industry sheet materials, such as plywood and gypsum boards, often need to be cut down to size. The cutting work is usually done by handheld knifes or saws. Typically, the cut edge needs to be straight - to achieve this the operative cutting the material will rely on a ‘straight edge’ – a length of timber or metal which provides a straight line. The straight edge, often just a piece of wood or a metal bar, is either
o used to mark a straight line on the material with a marking tool with it then being removed so the operative can form the cut following the straight line by hand. In this case the operative relies on his / her own skill to maintain the cutting tool on a straight line with the marked line acting only as a guide.
o or the straight edge can be kept in place and used as a guide for cutting tool. It is difficult to hold the ‘straight edge’ in place while cutting at the same time.
The PC Edge aid attaches to the material providing a secure straight line that the carpenter or plasterer can quickly, accurately and easily cut along.
The body of the aid is manufactured from aluminium, the inserts are made from nylon and there are two-level indicators. At a glance the aid looks like a regular spirit level.
Currently the company offers an 8-foot and a 5-foot version. - Advantages and Innovations
-
1. The system is fast: it allows sheets of materials to be marked and cut without having to lift them or fix and release clamps.
2. The system is safe: it reduces manual handling; it avoids the risk of the straight edge slipping when cutting with one hand and holding the straight edge with the other – a situation which can have disastrous results.
3. The system results in a better quality of cut – straight and consistent.
4. The system leaves little imprint on the off cut allowing for this to be reused in most cases. - Stage of Development
