General information

Short Summary
An Italian start-up is able to synthesize non-commercially available organic molecules and perform contract research and analytical characterization services for a wide range of applications, such as pharmaceuticals, organic electronics, healthcare, cosmetics, life sciences, and applied chemistry sectors. It offers its expertise through a commercial agreement with technical assistance or potentially other kind of agreement.
Full Description
The company offers synthetic organic chemistry services to private companies, universities and R&D institutions, for example
1. synthesize molecules whose preparation is known.
2. develop a synthetic route for non-commercially available compounds.
3. develop and optimize chemical processes.
4. develop synthetic routes to overcome patent restriction and conduct further studies for R&D purposes.
5. identification and structural characterization of impurities and unknown molecules.

Current capabilities allow the SME to deliver synthetic organic chemistry batch sizes that vary from few milligrams to hundreds of grams. The purity of final compounds is assessed by NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and MS (mass spectroscopy) techniques. Further analyses can be carried out upon request.

The company can synthesize molecules whose preparation is known (provided by the partner) or develop a synthetic route for the desired compound/s starting from the literature. It can also provide non-commercially available organic molecules.

In addition, it can prepare reaction intermediates, building blocks and impurities, develop and optimize chemical processes and provide identification and structural characterization of impurities and unknown compounds. It can also develop the synthesis of interesting compounds (for example, an active pharmaceutical ingredient - API) to overcome patent restrictions to provide a sample for R&D studies only.

The company’s well-equipped laboratory can carry out complex chemical reactions in adherence to the health and safety procedures required. The laboratory is fitted with a chemical fume hood including a schlenk line and a glove-box to handle air and moisture sensitive compounds.

Other tools available comprise a rotary evaporator, ultrasonic bath, UV-Vis lamp, and parallel synthesis apparatus allowing us to produce small libraries of compounds. A full analytical characterization of intermediates and final products is possible by combining internal and external analytical techniques.

The company is also interested in a multidisciplinary collaboration with companies and/or institutions for grant applications and research projects.
Advantages and Innovations
• Access non-commercially available organic molecules.
• Scale-up of available or developed procedures up to hundreds of grams.
• Develop synthetic routes involved in research project to reduce costs, by-products and waste, and find alternatives to toxic and/or dangerous chemicals.
• Fully equipped laboratory to handle air and moisture sensitive compounds
• Dedicated resource/s for partner project/s

Outsourcing organic chemical synthesis allows partners to reduce their need for investment for laboratory space (fume hoods, benches, instruments and equipment) while optimizing human resources in the project.

Because it is an SME, the company is flexible, promises direct and rapid communications, and is responsive to ever-changing priorities.

Partner Sought

Expected Role of a Partner
The ideal partner is a company, R&D institution or university that wants to externalize the chemistry part of a project, whether this is a custom synthesis or a process development for a project.
The Italian SME is open to collaborate in the development of a product and/or a process with the objective to submit a grant application to access funding, and is happy to be involved in new challenges regardless of the final goal.
