General information
- Short Summary
- A Czech university hospital has developed novel device that enables objective muscle measuring = independent on a will of the subject. They search for a partner to bring the concept to the market whether in the field of intensive medicine as medical device or in the field of sport medicine for athletes. Prototype of second generation meets all regulations that are required to be followed for devices of this type.
- Full Description
-
A Czech university hospital whose history dates back to 1887 possesses solid research and development facilities where it runs multiple domestic and international R&D projects. Currently, they would like to bring one of their technology to the market.
Common method of measuring muscle strength is to use manual dynamometer that requires cooperation of the subject and thus depends on their engagement. Measuring muscle strength though may be an important component of physical training or nutrition evaluation and assessment. The lack of quantitative data of muscle strength resulted in the development of novel device that measures muscle strength objectively, i. e. independently on the will of the subject. The device works on the principle of electric stimulation of the musculus tibialis at the motor point by a series of stimulations with increasing intensity.
The maximum muscle strength is determined from the measured values using torque sensor based on tensometric measurement. This non-invasive approach enables to appropriately determine the characteristics of muscles and assess the proportion of fast and slow muscle fibres.
This device is intended not only for sport medicine (effect of the training and nutrition on athletes’ performance) and for athletes themselves, but also for intensive medicine (sarcopenia, coma, long-term diseases).
The solution consists of a boot for tested person, electrodes that stimulate muscles, sensors that scan their movement and software that evaluates results.
The university hospital, as a research organization, has the prototype available for demonstration. It is expected from candidates to complete the solution to marketable product. Research and development support will be provided. - Advantages and Innovations
-
- Device operates objectively = independently on a human will
- Solution is mobile, simple and easy-to-use
- Device represents suitable tool for physician to identify extent of damage caused by sarcopenia
and thus to start preventive and therapeutic interventions on time
- It helps athletes to identify nutrition effect on their performance resp. muscles and thus it can help
them improve it
- It can measure muscle strength of the subject that has fallen unconscious and thus the physician
can start preventive (passive rehabilitation, nutrition) and therapeutic interventions on time - Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
- Global impact and experiences with MDR.
- Stage of Development
- Available for demonstration
- Sustainable Development Goals
- Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
- IPR status
- Secret know-how
Partner Sought
- Expected Role of a Partner
- University hospital is searching for a partner, licensee, that would bring the technology to the market. Research and desvelopment support will be provided.
