General information
- Short Summary
-
UK SME has developed a new generation of hydrogen electrolyser, based on an innovative membrane-less core.
The company seeks partners who can introduce the solution to the market, potentially combining it with other related existing technologies such as hydrogen combustion engine solutions, photo-voltaic technology, or hydrogen fuel cell technology. Partnerships are sought under a research cooperation agreement and investment agreement to deliver a low-cost green hydrogen solution. - Full Description
-
UK SME is an established hydrogen technology company and has developed a new generation of hydrogen electrolyser, based on an innovative membrane-less core. When powered by electricity from renewable sources such as solar photovoltaics (PV), wind, nuclear, or hydro, this innovative technology has a zero-carbon footprint, with low capital expenditure (CAPEX) and competitive operating expense (OPEX).
Electrolysis of water has been around 200 years; however, this technique has recently received increased attention due to its potential role in the “green” hydrogen energy economy. Demand for hydrogen is increasing as hydrogen provides a convenient means to store converted electrical energy generated from the growing deployment of clean and renewable energy sources.
The hydrogen electrolyser uses electrolysis to convert unmodified seawater or fresh water into hydrogen using solar energy as a power source. Competing electrolysis systems can be comparatively inefficient and often rely on expensive materials, porous membranes, and caustic/toxic electrolytes, resulting in high construction CAPEX. Also, using expensive mains grid power results in high OPEX. Overcoming these challenges presents an opportunity for new disruptive technology to reshape the market.
The innovative construction uses laminar flow to separate the gas products without the need for a physical barrier resulting in a higher power density. In addition, the device does not use any rare materials or toxic substances in its operation. The system runs on a 240V supply and common tap water or seawater.
The design of the core and associated control system is compact, robust, scalable, and low maintenance with sufficient capacity to directly supply either a domestic space heating system, hydrogen vehicle refuelling station or small industrial process.
Partnerships are sought under research and development cooperation agreements and investment agreements.
The company seeks partners who can introduce the solution to the market and potentially combine it with other related existing technologies such as hydrogen combustion engine solutions, photo-voltaic technology, or hydrogen fuel cell technology to deliver a low-cost green hydrogen solution.
The company would be interested in joint product development such as partners providing photovoltaic or fuel cells or hydrogen storage solutions to complement UK company’s low-cost green hydrogen production. - Advantages and Innovations
-
This hydrogen electrolyser can already produce H2 at $6.7/kg with a roadmap to achieving $2/kg by 2030.
30% more energy efficient than the best electrolyser technology on the market
Is ready to exploit low voltage / high current (high density) renewable energy sources
Achieving high levels of H2 purity
Ability to run on filtered sea water or filtered tap water
Without any use of chemicals and rare materials
With minimal negative ecological impact and footprint thanks to the use of recyclable materials
With CAPEX and OPEX 50%-60% lower than any known current available technology - Stage of Development
