General information
- Short Summary
- The company is a Portuguese Institute of Research and Technology Development that is looking for a consortium that needs a partner with a strong expertise in product development, computational modelling and numerical simulation, as well as knowledge in manufacturing processes, especially additive manufacturing processes, to apply to call HORIZON-CL4-2024-RESILIENCE-01-36: Advanced Biomaterials for the Health Care (IA).
- Full Description
-
A Research and Technology Organization of engineering has its research activity covering the areas of new technologies for advanced manufacturing processes, experimental mechanics, applied mechanics, energy, new materials, advanced healthcare technologies, management, sustainability, or the development of products and systems.
The Institute’s research activity is integrated in the Portuguese network of research funded by the
Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology and has consistently been evaluated as excellent. In fact, this RTO is one of the most effective entities in transforming R&D investment in economic and social value. Its research infrastructure includes a broad set of well-equipped laboratories, and an extensive portfolio of engineering tools and software, to support the production of industrial or commercial prototypes, as well as accreditation laboratories for specific areas of expertise. The wide network of partners makes this RTO well connected to many important worldwide stakeholders, as well.
The institute is looking for consortia or specialized partners in materials and its applications with 4D Printing in healthcare technologies, to play a role as a partner applying to call HORIZON-CL4-2024-RESILIENCE-01-36: Advanced Biomaterials for the Health Care (IA), providing all of our know-how, as well as to enhance the quality of the consortia with other strong partners, if interesting for you.
For your consortium, the institute can provide several different competencies. In the last decades, this RTO has developed and published significant work in the simulation of manufacturing processes, from metal casting/ sheet forming to glass fabrication. In the last twenty years, the institute has dedicated particular attention to all dimensions of metal and polymeric AM (equipment development, process and structural simulation and experimentation), making use of an interesting portfolio of AM machines, most of them developed in-house. In the field of production technologies, the creation of original methodologies for the assessment of resource efficiency of manufacturing processes and systems is also one of our key competencies. Moreover, the work of the computational group stands out internationally in the computational modelling of tissue regeneration, including the development of material constitutive models
from experimental tests. Together, these competencies allow the institute to develop complex products, as well as to furnish a detailed mechanical characterization of materials, making use of its techniques and lab testing validation procedures. - Advantages and Innovations
-
We can play a role in several different work packages, performing the following activities:
- Product and Equipment development (in cooperation with some industrial partner)
- Manufacturing processes simulation and optimization;
- Numerical simulation and computation modelling of multi-scale materials;
- Life cycle assessment;
- Technology transfer and dissemination. - Stage of Development
- Concept stage

- Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
- IPR description
- For this topic, we aim to find several different types of expertise, namely, biomaterials development and its chemical characterization; 3D/4D Printing development; experience with surgical procedures.
Partner Sought
- Expected Role of a Partner
-
The institute is looking for partner/consortium in which our technical skills can enhance computational analysis and further technological development of the material and product:
• Materials – we need a partner from materials development. It could be either an institute or a company;
• Industry partners – since it is an IA topic, we are looking for industrial partners that are able to coordinate the consortium;
• Use cases: we want industry partners that aim to apply 4D Printing in their technologies or innovative ideas;
• Academia: a private university (especially from Eastern Europe) would be an interesting asset to the academical research component of the project;
• Product Development: an industrial partner that is able to co-develop machines, like 3D/4D Printers;
• Medical Research: Medical Universities or Hospitals with knowledge in terms of clinical procedures that might benefit from 4D Printing.
Other suitable partners may participate for dissemination/communication tasks or clinical trial entities. - Type and Size of Partner
