General information

Short Summary
A UK SME has developed hardware, software and data analytics capable of monitoring air quality in industrial locations. The technology offers a complete turn-key solution including deployment of sensors, monitoring, data collection & analytics. It provides users the ability to prevent workers and local communities being exposed to harmful levels of pollutants. They are seeking partners for a commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Full Description
The UK company is a software and data analysis company based in Bristol. The company specialises in extracting value from unutilised or untapped data sources, to produce metrics that are meaningful and actionable. The company follows a “fill in the gaps” approach that uses IoT sensors to collect fleet, machinery, energy, safety and environmental data not covered by pre-existing sensors. Their technology generates KPIs and valuable insights to enable a holistic overview of operations.

The company spun out of the University of Bath as a tech start-up in 2016. Having developed sensor systems and an IoT dashboard, the company applied these technologies afresh to industry, having learned that scant data was available by which to make decisions regarding employee health and emissions off-site.
The technology measures site activity and pollution using IoT sensors to rank on-site assets by real-world emission levels and highlight risks to staff and the environment. Their new built-in house platform provides a place for both collected and external environmental and asset data to live, enabling organisations in parallel sectors such as ports and construction to visualise and understand their operations all in one place.

As part of their platform and data analysis, the company enables real-time notifications, alerting management to potential risks and enabling proactive—rather than reactive—risk management.
The company aims to transform the industry’s understanding of pollution and its root causes. They shine a light on the role that site activity plays, to protect people and the environment alike.
They work across a range of industries such as rail, healthcare, construction, nuclear and maritime.

The UK company seeks commercial agreements with technical assistance to allow them to deploy their software and/or hardware solution on an operational site such as quarry, construction, depot or port.
Advantages and Innovations
The main advantage of this technology offer is the ability to produce a detailed map of the air quality in a certain location and display it in a way that can be easily understood.

The contextual data that is produced allows companies to make informed decisions about how best to deploy people and equipment to remove the risks from emissions and contamination.

The technology can show where and when there are air quality issues at a specific site. For example, a large construction site during concrete pouring, chemical handing at ports, ventilation faults in offices.

For health and safety professionals who manage one or multiple sites, the company has developed a cloud-based portal service. This allows quick comparison of data from multiple sensors to isolate the processes/sectors/sites that need fixing.

The company’s technology integrates all available asset and environmental data, i.e. data-fusion highlighting correlations between otherwise disparate datasets, such as energy usage vs asset usage, amongst wider asset savings.

Other innovation:
- Containerised tool: Their platform can be integrated into any industrial environment, regardless of pre-existing technical infrastructure.
- Cloud-based platform: Accessible from anywhere with a secure internet connection.
- Data-agnostic: Their unique “fill in the gaps” data-agnostic IoT methodology combines existing datasets and ensures integration of new data.

There are various solutions from competitors on the market (e.g. Hitachi, Hiboo, HeatingSave, Siemens 'Industrial-Edge' etc), however, they have disadvantages:
- Fusion: These solutions commonly fail to integrate a broad spectrum of data, rendering it difficult to gather comprehensive insights.
- Too many platforms: Solutions for each dataset means multiple service contracts, and proves costly in the long run.
- Savings: With disjointed asset data and missing machinery usage data, none of the solutions are holistic, each being OEM/hardware-specific.

Partner Sought

Expected Role of a Partner
The UK company seeks commercial agreements that will allow them to deploy their software and/or hardware solution on an operational site such as quarry, construction, depot or port.

They expect the partner to be the end user of their software platform and site data reports.
They seek industrial or operational partners that require environmental or asset monitoring to better understand sources of pollution on site and use of their assets. This can also include needing an integration partner i.e. a solution where all the site, environmental and operations data can be digested and viewed by several teams.

They would need the following from their test-site partner:

- A suitable site
- Site map to plan where sensors will go
- Permission to install non-invasively this hardware or
confirming that they are happy to install it
themselves in previously agreed locations
- Steer on metrics and reports this can be easily
achieved over an online call
- Support throughout the project to ensure all
analysis is meaningful, actionable and evaluation
of projects benefits can be undertaken.
