General information

Short Summary
Research and development center for cattle breeding from the North-East of Romania, active in the sector of rearing and breeding of cattle, is interested in participating, as a partner, in international projects, together with universities, research centers and/or companies, for the development of an intelligent ecosystem of biosensors, based on AI, for cattle health and welfare monitoring.
Full Description
The research and development centre for cattle breeding is located in one of the counties of the North-East Region of Romania, the research and development activity being carried out since 1981, in the fields of:
• Breeding and rearing of cattle from 2 native breeds, in order to form populations, performing and adapting to national conditions;
• Development of cattle breeding biotechnologies;
• Nutrition and control of animal products such as milk - meat;
• Development of scientific and technological capacity at regional and national levels;
• Dissemination of information and modern growing and exploitation technologies.
It is an accredited center of excellence in cattle breeding with:
• Breeding and genetics technologies;
• Reproduction biotechnologies and animal health;
• Nutrition, food quality and safety.
The centre is interested in the development of a project idea aimed at creating an intelligent ecosystem that can be used in a cattle farm.
Why ecosystem?
Because, currently, there are sensors for monitoring the health and quality of the milk in the milking parlor and in the shelters, but these sensors act independently. By creating an ecosystem, it is intended that all these existing sensors be integrated and work complementary, so that farmers can make decisions more easily and efficiently. Thus, the productivity of the farm could increase, but the impact on the environment could also decrease. And in the case of units
that also have processing lines, it is possible to go further, by incorporating blockchain-based tools, for traceability on the food chain.
Advantages and Innovations
Advantages and innovations
The center has significant expertise in:
• identifying and selecting animals with desirable traits for improved genetic gain and overall productivity in cattle populations;
• designing and optimization of cattle breeding programs, based on modern animal reproduction
biotechnologies;
• cattle nutrition, health, reproduction and management practices;
• assessment of dairy and meat products;
• design of functional dairy products.
