General information

Short Summary
A UK SME has developed a new renewable energy generation proposition that combines wave, wind, and solar to produce low-cost electrical power. The company seeks collaboration with research organizations and business partners in Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway. These partners will be involved in the renewable energy sector, including entities within the marine sector and those involved in related renewable energy network infrastructure.
Full Description
UK SME has developed a new breakthrough high tech renewable energy generation proposition combining the innovation trilogy of wave, wind, and solar low-cost electrical power with a focus on best value coastal installations generating highly competitive locally distributed power and supplementing the total output and base load of offshore wind farms.

In accordance with the strategic innovation and growth priorities of the UK Renewable Energy Strategy and Energy Security Plan in driving the generation and use of low carbon technologies, the business is commercialising a new and novel relative buoyancy wave energy convertor with an integrated solar array and vertical axis wind turbine, coupled with additional derivative product options including water desalination, and hydrogen generation from sea water.

The technology is driving forward the development of a relative buoyancy wave energy convertor with solar top, and derivative application products of sea water to hydrogen generation, potential for water desalination, and increased efficiency gains in the design and operation of marine vertical axis wind turbines.

The business has progressed with patent and design rights, and is at proof-of-concept test validation stage and is seeking R&D support with trials and testing specifically with technical 'hydrodynamic modelling of the device primary wave mover', and the technical hydraulic system and ram specifically required to cope with the high pressures and corrosive conditions of different sea depths and to operate effectively in this demanding environment.

The business seeks a research and development partnership in the marine and /or renewable energy sector to drive forward the proof-of-concept test validation stage to commercial live trials.
Advantages and Innovations
Radical offshore renewable energy technology with key innovation features comprising of integrated solar array and vertical axis wind turbine, coupled with additional derivative product options including water desalination, and hydrogen generation from sea water.

This hybrid proposition is uniquely designed to integrate these renewable energy generation capabilities within a location specific bespoke solution driving greater installation and energy generation potential than what currently exists in the market . The business has estimated combined cost savings of between 10 to 20% compared with current stand-alone technologies dependant on onsite implementation and location factors.
