General information
- Short Summary
- A Romanian company located in Transylvania produces a state-of-the-art hydroponic system designed around principles of sustainability and circular economy. It incorporates hemp fiber substrates, which are not only biodegradable but also reduce carbon footprints, making it an eco-friendly choice. The company is looking for international distributors under commercial agreement.
- Full Description
-
A Romanian company based in Transylvania has created a hydroponic system combined with a smart app for growing sprouts and microgreens using natural light and tap water. This system uses a minimal amount of water and zero fertilizers, utilizing hemp fibers as a growth medium. Hemp fibers are not only biodegradable and compostable but also possess natural properties that resist mold and pests. The process enables up to 30 times more nutrition per gram compared to traditional vegetables. By incorporating hemp fiber waste, the system enhances the economic value of local hemp cultivation, boosting the competitiveness of regional industrial hemp growers. The system operates on principles of a circular economy, achieving a neutral to negative carbon footprint based on usage, as the hydroponic substrates are reused successively. Industrial hemp effectively sequesters 8-15 tons of CO2 per hectare over a 120-day growth cycle, significantly outperforming the carbon sequestration capabilities of trees, which vary from 2-8 tons annually depending on various factors. Additionally, the company has established a decentralized production model for the hydroponic system, targeting a production capacity of up to 12,500 medium-sized units monthly.
Currently, to further broaden international sales of their product, the company is looking for partners with expertise in distribution and logistics. - Advantages and Innovations
- The hydroponic system utilizes hemp fiber plant waste as a hydroponic growth medium, enhancing the economic value of local hemp crops and contributing to the competitiveness of local industrial hemp growers. Designed based on circular economy principles, the system achieves a neutral to negative carbon footprint, with the successive use of hemp fiber substrates leading to a negative CO2 impact; industrial hemp sequesters significantly more CO2 compared to trees. Its decentralized production system can produce up to 12,500 units per month, supporting large-scale distribution. The vertical design enables efficient use of space by allowing multiple crops to be placed, making it ideal for urban homes. Furthermore, it is a self-sustaining system that requires minimal watering, with microgreens harvested in just 7-10 days using only 700 ml of water for every 100 g of produce, resulting in significantly lower water usage compared to traditional open field cropping. Additionally, the system features AI support through an app for iOS and Android that provides real-time advice on optimal harvesting based on weather and light conditions, thus minimizing human intervention. It achieves a carbon-negative status through the use of sustainable hemp fiber substrates. The production system is also cost-effective due to collaboration with 100% Romanian suppliers, enabling it to offer the lowest prices in the EU. In fact, the prices for consumables, such as organic seeds, are 30-80% lower than those of competitors.
