Vanillin is the world's most important flavoring substance in terms of quantity. It is used in food, beverages, ice cream, baked goods and chocolate, as well as in the perfume and pharmaceutical industries. It is main ingredient of vanilla extract, a rare natural product.
Following their tremendous success in producing the EU natural raspberry aroma, R-alpha-Ionone, this German biotech company has succeeded in developing an innovative, natural production process for vanillin. It consists of a fermentative process. In the development it was possible to draw on previous work and existing platform strains. An optimized E. coli strain for the production of vanillin from ferulic acid was developed that has high vanillin titers and produces vanillin with a purity of over 95%. This presence of a high-quality strain makes it possible to exploit the development possibilities of the fermentation pilot plant in the company's own fermentation plant and to use the process to optimize production.
They are looking for industrial partners from the flavor industry as sales partner for commercialization. The agreement envisaged is a license agreement.
