- Full Description
-
The Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” – IBISS is one of the most prominent scientific research institutions in Serbia, with a long-standing tradition of excellence in the fields of life sciences, biotechnology, environmental protection, and biomedical research. Founded in 1947 and affiliated with the University of Belgrade, IBISS combines fundamental and applied research across multiple disciplines and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration at national and international levels.
IBISS is structured into research departments covering areas such as neurobiology, molecular biology, immunology, plant physiology, environmental biology, ecology, and microbiology. The institute conducts cutting-edge research in biomedicine and biodiversity, with a growing focus on translational science and technology transfer. Its scientists participate in national innovation programs and European research initiatives, including Horizon Europe, COST actions, EUREKA, and bilateral cooperation programs.
A core strategic orientation of IBISS is the application of scientific results for societal and industrial benefit. Through its internal Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) team and strategic partnerships, IBISS is actively working to commercialize its research outcomes, particularly in the fields of bioactive compounds, fermented functional products, diagnostics, green technologies, and sustainable solutions for agriculture and health. The institute has participated in technology maturation activities, patenting processes, and market assessments to support this mission.
IBISS maintains strong laboratory infrastructure, including accredited facilities, advanced equipment for molecular and biochemical analysis, UPLC and HPLC systems, microbiological testing capabilities, and bioreactor technology. These facilities are available for collaborative research, testing, and pilot-scale validation with external partners.
The institute is particularly interested in forming partnerships with research institutions, companies, and innovation networks for the following purposes:
- Participation in international research consortia (e.g., Horizon Europe)
- Co-development and validation of innovative biotechnology-based products
- Commercialization and licensing of novel biological solutions (e.g., bioactives, diagnostics)
- Access to international markets through research-to-market collaborations
- Joint project development in environmental, health, and agricultural biotechnology
In addition to research excellence, IBISS is committed to mentoring young scientists, engaging in science communication, and contributing to regional innovation ecosystems. The institute is also a participant in national smart specialization initiatives and collaborates closely with universities, public health institutions, and industry actors.
The team at IBISS is open to research, development, and business cooperation with European and international partners who are seeking scientifically robust, ethically sound, and innovation-driven collaboration. Whether through shared research agendas, contract research, joint grant applications, or technology licensing, IBISS brings credibility, capacity, and creativity to partnerships. - Advantages and Innovations
