General information
- Short Summary
-
Established Slovak scientific and research institute deals with detailed research on the application possibilities of biodegradable plastic materials and at the same time is involved in the investigation of mixtures of various plastics with thermoplastic starch.
The preferred cooperation types are either commercial agreement or investment agreement. - Full Description
-
Currently, liquid rubbers are used as additives inadvanced rubber compositions or in formulas for so-called hot melt adhesives to increase of adhesion strength. These additives are available on the market in high volume at a price well below 10€/kg.
When using this new type of compatibilizers, it is possible to design biodegradable polymer mixtures based on a number of different biodegradable plastic materials containing up to 50% of thermoplastic starch. The mixtures containing liquid rubber compatibilizers exhibit excellent ultimate utility properties exceeding the mechanical properties of polyethylene as the most used plastic for packaging films. At a thermoplastic starch content of up to 30%, replacing the polypropylene by biodegradable substitute may be achieved at a price close to, or even lower, compared to the aforementioned plastics based on fossil resources.
The institute is looking for a partner to cooperate with via commercial agreement or investment agreement. - Advantages and Innovations
-
• significant reduction of material costs for the production of foils (down to the level of the price of plastics produced from fossil fuels) due to the incorporation of thermoplastic starch into the biodegradable polymer material and
• excellent mechanical properties, especially strength and Young's modulus, as well as toughness, outperforming low density polyethylene with ultimate properties close to or better compared to polypropylene and high density polyethyl;ene - Stage of Development
