General information

Short Summary
A British fashion manufacturing business built and validate in-house software that incorporates sustainability into the design step. Having saved carbon and money and winning accolades, they wish to collaborate with European fashion schools to validate it on further designs and also build content for workshops on the topic. Technical co-operation is being sought.
Full Description
Founded in 2020, this UK fashion manufacturing business diversified into fashion tech.
There is a source of waste in the fashion business stemming from the fact that different stakeholders create the designs and later arrange the shapes on the fabric (tessellation).
What the new SaaS does is it builds sustainability into the original design process. The designer gets immediate feedback on the volume of waste that would be generated during manufacturing. They are working on an AI recommendation system that in real time gives feedback along the lines of ‘the sleeve on this garment would produce more waste as it is, can we tweak it better’. The designer will input a couple measurables at the beginning on things such as the proposed width of the fabric, and optionally data on the sustainability credentials of alternative fabric sources.
The software has been put to test and in-house, it produced material savings of around 9% which of course translates into carbon and financial savings. The company uses it to sell more goods. Feedback from other designers suggests the savings can go up to 15%.

The company has won recognition in the UK and now wishes to collaborate with European fashion and design schools and colleges.
The SaaS model allows for a flexible academic subscription. The company hopes to validate the software further in all types of designs but also co-create content and workshops on the topic of sustainable fashion.
