General information
- Short Summary
- A Spanish research group offers a mobile application that allows to anticipate the risk situation to increase the driver's attention during the stretch of coincidence with a fragile vehicle. The application collects geolocation data of the subjects and stores them so that the main companies offering GPS services can use them to include a reference in their maps. They seek commercial agreement with technical assistance and/or research and development cooperation agreement
- Full Description
-
The Spanish research group developing this software is addressing a critical gap in geolocation and accident prevention for vulnerable road users, particularly cyclists.
This software addresses the critical gap in geolocation and accident prevention for fragile vehicles, particularly cyclist.
This innovative technology, seamlessly operational on standard mobile devices, efficiently collects and disseminates real-time geolocation data of cyclists to other GPS devices on the road, optimizing resource usage.
Noteworthy for its collaboration potential with global geolocation platforms, the mobile application becomes a reference for major GPS (global positioning system) service providers' maps. Beyond its technical prowess, the application actively seeks strategic international partnerships for joint research, technology exchange, and collaborative projects, envisioning a broader impact on global road safety.
The desired outcome includes an expanded user base, heightened data accuracy, and the integration of additional safety features, solidifying mobile application's role as a catalyst for safer and more inclusive roads worldwide.
The research group is interested in contact with different partners. Commercial agreements are sought and partners for research cooperation agreements are welcome as well. - Advantages and Innovations
-
The software presents the approach of a "publisher-subscriber" communication model. In this scheme, the mobile application acts as the "publisher", notifying the location of fragile vehicles, such as cyclists, to other GPS devices on the road. This communication relies on the efficient use of the memory, battery and standard geolocation system present in the smartphones of the issuing users.
The application is distinguished by its ability to integrate with geolocation platforms, which have an extensive global user base. This type of collaboration significantly expands the scope of information on the presence of cyclists on the roads, as the mobile application can collect geolocation data from the subjects and store it in a way that it can be used as a reference in its maps. This technical approach not only simplifies implementation by not requiring additional infrastructure, inputs, or machinery, but also allows both the publishing and information consuming applications to run effectively on standard mobile devices, facilitating their adoption by users.
In addition, the invention suggests future applications, such as the detection of other vehicles in risky situations and its potential use in the development of autonomous vehicles.
Main advantages:
• Accident Prevention: Anticipates risky situations, allowing drivers to increase their attention when approaching cyclists, reducing the possibility of accidents.
• Inclusivity: It does not require additional infrastructure, as it works on standard mobile devices.
• Simplicity: It is intuitive for cyclists and drivers, allowing a fast-learning curve. - Stage of Development

Partner Sought
- Expected Role of a Partner
-
The tool is an innovative mobile app enhancing road safety for cyclists. Using a "publisher-subscriber" model on standard mobile devices, it shares real-time cyclist geolocation data efficiently. Notably, it collaborates with global GPS platforms, becoming a reference for major maps. With a simple interface and intuitive design, the mobile application aims for broader impact through strategic international partnerships in road safety initiatives.
In addition, they are looking for a research groups and research institutions to collaborate to transfer and bring the technology to the next level and, additionally, apply for European funds. - Type and Size of Partner
