General information

Short Summary
A Spanish SME specialized in ICT is looking for partners for a Eurostars-3 Call 7 consortium. The consortium aims at developing a digital platform for advanced archaeological site detection using AI/ML techniques and aerial/satellite datasets. With an early-stage PoC at TRL3, the goal is to advance to TRL6. The company seeks partners with expertise in archaeological site discovery, AI/ML algorithm development, and experience with Earth observation, LiDAR, SAR, or similar datasets.
Full Description
A Spanish SME working in the ICT sector since 2005 is looking for partners to form a consortium to apply to the Call 7 of Eurostars-3. With a multidisciplinary team of over 50 specialists, the company develops bespoke digital solutions leveraging its expertise in geolocation information systems (GIS), app development, data processing and analytics, and big data management. The company is widely experienced in successfully delivering R&D projects, with a portfolio of over 25 publicly funded projects completed to date.

Archaeological discoveries are very often made by accident. New technologies are making available a range of remote sensing techniques. Some of the resulting types of datasets have shown to be promising in detecting buried archaeological sites, but automation is limited. Site detection is still a really complex process requiring multidisciplinary specialist knowledge and extensive data manipulation. There is an opportunity to leverage the latest digital technologies and integrate these into a holistic, easy-to-use and efficient platform for remote archaeological site detection.

A very early stage PoC with limited functionality has been developed. Although the technology seems feasible, it is still far from being user-friendly, highly integrated platform the company envisions to develop.

The company intends to seek funding from Eurostars-3 to take the technology from current TRL3 to TRL6, and is looking for at least one additional SME that can add value to the project to form a consortium. The SME should be based within an Eurostars country. EoIs from Portugal, Ireland, Scotland and England are particularly welcome, as clear use cases have been identified within those geographies, but other options will be considered.

The partners will perform joint R&D activities. The following roles/needs have been identified:
1. Sector expertise within the field of archaeological site/artifact discovery or related subjects.
2. Earth observation, Lidar, SAR, or similar, experience.
3. AI/Ml algorithm development expertise.

There is no need for a single partner to cover all these three activities.

Please note the deadline to apply to the Call 7 is the 12th of September of 2024. The company would like to have a fully formed consortium by the 12th of July.
