General information
- Short Summary
-
the UK market.
The device is a handheld medical metal detector, suitable for detecting all types of metal, including titanium and rust proof metals. In first aid it is suitable for removing metal objects, such as bullets, splinters, nails, metal chips and pins from the body.
It can also be used in deeper surgery, for instance in carrying out a laparotomy or a thoracotomy .
The business is now seeking overseas distribution partners in Europe, Middle East and Africa. - Full Description
-
The device has gone through regulatory review towards MDR requirements in the last 2 years and has been sold commercially since 2022.
The research for the device was led by Professor Markku Kataja from the University of Jyyäskylä to research and define how induction could be best used to detect titanium, stainless steel and other relevant metals.
The device uses inductive sensing technology to detect metallic objects by a localised electromagnetic field. The device does not create ionising radiation. The device features a highly visible round-shaped bar graph-style LED display as well as a voice indicator that signals detection level.
The device is battery operated (2 x AAA batteries) with the battery voltage internally stabilised for a long and problem-free operational time. When powered on, the device is ready to use within a few seconds. There are three detection sensitivity ranges to choose from.
The device meets current MDR requirements and carries an MHRA registration for the UK market.
The UK company are now seeking distribution partners for the Europe, the Middle East and Africa regions. The device has a UK distribution partner already in place.
Preferred partners would be companies who distribute medical devices for surgery and have specific specialisms in the field of orthopaedics and traumatology.
The business hopes to introduce the device to private and public hospitals and clinics. Training on the device will be provided for partners by the UK business. - Advantages and Innovations
-
Finding metal, such as screws, wires or other metallic foreign bodies can be extremely difficult to find in open wounds with blood tissue and bone obstructing visibility.
The device can replace x-ray, for example when it is not available but also complements X-ray for better accuracy in surgery.
The device results in time savings in the operating room as metal is found fast and in the human body.
The device removes guess work in surgery - rather than working with x-ray images, the device can find the exact location of the metal from the body, which significantly reduces trauma for the patient. - Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
-
The distribution partner should be experienced in the sector with a dedicated sales team and resources to sell into hospitals (public and private) and specialist medical clinics.
The distribution partner should have a strong reputation in the market and have the necessary in-house expertise and network reach to sell into hospitals and clinics - Stage of Development
