Short Summary
A UK Company is developing a platform for bio-based material producers to bring their material to the attention of design, engineering, sourcing and procurement and so expand their use in industry.
The company is looking for bio-based material producers looking to list their materials.
Full Description
A UK Company is developing a platform for bio-based material producers to bring their material to the attention of design, engineering, sourcing and procurement and so expand their use in industry.

It includes both bio-based material feedstocks; straw, bagasse, husks, wood chip, algae and many others, together with the materials made from those feedstocks including composites, resins, polymers, lubricants, textiles etc.

The platform will offer detailed material specifications and related meta-data, to expand material choices for product producers, streamline decision-making during the product development and manufacturing lifecycle and aid compliance with changing regulations and circular economy principles.

The platform will be a facilitator for bio-based material producers, helping them access new market opportunities by closing information gaps for manufacturers using sustainable materials.

The stage of development is currently TRL 5.

Types of collaboration sought: Engagement with material producers to gather bio-based material data; properties, parameters and characteristics
Advantages and Innovations
This is currently the only project collecting and organising comprehensive, specifically bio-based material data and metadata globally, and making it available in a structured, searchable form.

It includes both bio-based material feedstocks; straw, bagasse, husks, wood chip, algae and many others, together with the materials made from those feedstocks including composites, resins, polymers, lubricants, textiles etc.

The registry makes possible various use cases including:

Material producers:

Listing bio-based materials in the database offers producers a range of benefits, including enhanced market exposure, collaboration opportunities, and a competitive advantage

Data users:

The database offers a wealth of benefits to product designers, developers, and production engineers, from easier access to innovative, sustainable materials, more informed decision-making during production and, ultimately, the potential for bio-based materials to contribute to the success of their product in the market.

A unique taxonomy is emerging from the work, and there is potential for new AI techniques for material discovery, data acquisition and cleaning, and NLP for the bio-based materials sector. (see technology request profile if you are have expertise or programming skills in AI / NPL).
