The UK organisation is a biological engineering company that develops solutions to convert organic waste into green fuels to maximise energy conversion and minimise carbon emissions. It specialises in anaerobic digestion and provides technical consultancy, hardware and managed service support packages to new and existing biogas operations.
It is seeking technology and licensing partners to commercialise its latest award winning feedstock optimisation technology platform. - Full Description
-
The UK organisation is a biological engineering company that develops solutions to convert organic waste into green fuels to maximise energy conversion and minimise carbon emissions.
The company has highly skilled directors in their field with a strong support team and an established industry reputation. Key experts include chemical engineer, and agricultural scientist, who have worked across UK, Europe and Africa on projects protecting the public from water borne pathogens, ensuring water quality, and generating energy from organic waste. They now, apply their knowledge to solutions for Net Zero and the green economy. The company’s research facility delivers innovation in green fuel production, nutrient recovery, and emissions reduction.
The company supports the entire anaerobic digestion lifecycle from analysis and feasibility, commissioning, and optimisation. The company’s anaerobic digestion services include: laboratory testing, consultancy & feasibility, concept design, pilot testing, feedstock pre-treatment, biogas plant optimisation, and managed biological support services. It also supplies and integrates its own proprietary biogas plant optimisation hardware on new and existing biogas facilities.
Current projects include development of novel technologies for the dark fermentation of biohydrogen from biomass, advanced anaerobic digestion of novel feedstocks and extraction of bioethanol from organic waste.
The company’s latest key project is a patented new technology which can revolutionise renewable energy with multi-stage anaerobic digestion and feedstock pretreatment technology. This involves modular technologies that increase biomass conversion during anaerobic digestion, helping to convert more of feedstock to gas to improve revenue. The technology enables biogas plants to produce green hydrogen and ammonia whilst increasing biomethane conversion efficiency on feedstocks and reducing HRT (hydraulic retention time). This enables a typical 2MW asset to double output capacity resulting in greater plant profitability and creating new offtake markets.
Derived from bio-hydrogen research, the technology increases conversion efficiency and widens the portfolio of available feedstocks to improve the return on investment on new or existing assets. Tests have demonstrated a 100% increase in biomethane production from the same footprint.
Biogas plants utilising this technology will have the potential to define new performance levels for the biogas industry, as well as expand into green hydrogen production for future gas to grid upgrading, district heating or vehicle fuel supply.
The foundation of all deployments of this new technology is a patented process using micronisation and catalysis to extract more gas from cellulosic material, which normally remains undigested in the AD process. Accessing this material enables clients to significantly increase biogas quality and yield, use less feedstock or change diet to a cheaper mix. The primary module has universal application in most existing biogas plants.
The company is interested in exploring the following type of cooperation:
- Technology licencing agreements: whereby an in-country partner can leverage the IP, technology platform, marketing materials, training and operational procedures to grow a local company distributing the products and providing ongoing service
- Technology distribution agreements: whereby a local company presents the business, develops the client relationships and distributes and supports the technology. This can include the provision of service support, biological testing and the sale of process chemicals as well as, or in addition to, the sale of capital equipment.
- Technology collaboration: whereby the company’s solutions are combined with another company’s solution to offer a unique process design. - Advantages and Innovations
-
Historically, anaerobic digesters were large and inefficient, with over half the biogas conversion potential being lost, resulting is higher production costs, reliance on subsidy and slower net zero transition.
Advancements by this company enable smaller, more efficient digesters that outperform their predecessors 2:1, significantly increasing gas output while reducing operational costs and environmental impact.
This novel feedstock pretreatment technology and multi-stage digestion increases consumption efficiency to double biogas output from the same size asset.
The technology platform integrates mechanical & biological pre-treatment, Dark Fermentation, and Anaerobic Digestion for up to 100% more biomethane conversion, biohydrogen and a faster production process.
Technical Impact:
- Boosts feedstock conversion efficiency and methanogenic growth, reducing residence time (HRT).
- Increases OLR (throughput capacity) (4-6/7 kgVS/m³).
- No extra feedstock needed for hydrogen production. (1.3M m3 H2 per plant p.a)
Commercial Impact:
- Enables 50% smaller digester designs or doubles output of existing plants.
- Operates subsidy-free with higher feedstock consumption and asset utilisation.
Competitive advantage:
- Live commercial demonstration
- Fully managed solution (hardware & Ops support)
- Small footprint, modular solution with 2 years pay back
Partner benefit
- First mover advantage on new technology & IP
- Revenue from capex sale
- Annuity revenue from managed support contracts - Stage of Development
- Available for demonstration
- Sustainable Development Goals
- Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
- Goal 15: Life on Land
- Goal 13: Climate Action

Partner Sought
- Expected Role of a Partner
-
Type of partner:
The UK company is seeking a partner with experience of green energy production using anaerobic digestion. This could be through wastewater treatment, agriculture or waste management. The partner could be :
• an equipment manufacturer looking for vertical integration
• a distributor looking to add new technology & services to its portfolio
• a biogas plant operator looking to implement new technology
• a service provider looking to extend their service offering into biological support.
• an asset management company looking for new technology to increase the output of new or existing biogas plant assets
The partner should have experience of operating or building large scale anaerobic digestion facilities (2MW+). They should have an awareness of feedstock pre-treatment methodology and multi-stage anaerobic digestion. Within their team them may have biologists and process engineers who understand the operation of complex systems.
Target sector: waste management, biogas production, biofuel production, agricultural waste management and biorefining.
Role of partner:
The partner will be the lead in the local market and be the representative of the company & its solutions. The UK company’s current preference is for a licence type agreement where the partner has access to the company’s technology and process IP and directly manages relationships with clients. The UK company will provide additional technical support as part of a partner agreement. However, they remain open to exploring operating models that help scale the technology and build commercial revenue for all parties . - Type and Size of Partner
