ECOFFIS project aims to improve the sustainability performance of in-use office buildings through the creation of a digital interregional platform to assess the ecological footprint by merging innovations of local products. For the call I3-2024-INV1, an Italian University is looking for startups and SMEs from less developed EU Regions active in:
• Waste Management within buildings
• Food & Drink consumed within buildings
• Trade-off Potential: innovative systems for circular reuse of resources. - Full Description
-
A European consortium coordinated by an Italian University based in Milan is writing a proposal for the ERDF call I3-2024-INV1. The goal of ECOFFIS is to improve the sustainability performance of office buildings during the in-use phase through the development of an integrated digital system. Given the recent change in ways of working and the reduction in the use of office buildings, there is an urgent need to address the significant impact that offices have on energy consumption and sustainability in general, while taking advantage of the complementary innovations available in the European Smart Specialization Areas.
The project aims to leverage on cross-country cooperation to develop a system, called ECOFFIS, with the aim of collecting and relating data from different systems that currently operate independently and are developed by disconnected partners, which represent potentially complementary elements in the real estate and sustainability value chain. The overlying structure of the ECOFFIS system aims to generate predictive and scenario analyses of the sustainability performance of different configurations and uses of office spaces. This is to support a more sustainable management of real estate assets by promoting the digitalisation of processes, governance and services in the workplace. The platform, therefore, combines digital products and services currently operating in different fields (including energy, soil, water, consumption of materials, food and drink, waste, mobility, use of renewable sources, employment and configuration of work spaces, monitoring of operating costs and people's well-being). The project envisages two levels of innovation for each individual partner involved: (i) a first level internal to the digital solution, which sees its expansion business with the addition of specific tasks for data collection and monitoring of office buildings; (ii) a second combined level which involves the definition of connection APIs between existing solutions and the overlying structure of the ECOFFIS system. Through a process of joint innovation along the real estate and construction sector’s value chains the project will strengthen innovation capacity on an inter-regional (pan-European) level.
The coordinator is looking for startups and SMEs from less developed EU Regions to complete the consortium. They should develop their business in one of the following three areas:
• Waste Management: measurement and data collection on quantity and type of waste produced, and recycle and reuse of waste within the building/building site
• Food & Drink: production, distribution and management of data related to edible products consumed within the building (e.g. vending machine providers, canteen managers, others…)
• Trade-off Potential: innovative systems for circular reuse of resources (e.g. data on energy produced by photovoltaic panels and re-put in the energy loop, CO2 credit management, reusable/rentable furniture, etc.). - Sustainable Development Goals
- Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Goal 13: Climate Action
